Spark Plug Help
Howdy folks. I have a question. Today my B4 service light came on. Well I already had my timing belt done and I do not let my dealership touch my tires. So I just need the oil change and the spark plugs. So they told me it's $230.00 for the spark plugs. Does anyone this is a fair price? What are yalls thoughts on "aftermarket" spark plugs? Would anyone recommend using something OTHER than what the dealer uses or should I just go with the dealer? I know NOTHING about cars other than I don't want mine to break down. HEHE. Please I need yalls advise. Thank you millions for your time and help.

the TL doesn't like a lot of the other ones. I'd look in the azine meets section for a TL owner that'd be willing to help you out for some quick cash or something. If not, go to some independent shops to get the job done, its pretty straightforward to do for a tech.

I haven't yet changed the plugs in my TL, but have done so in several other vehicles. My guess would be that you can purchase the Acura service manual, plugs, and proper tools for less than $200. Or you can find someone on the forum with the scans, borrow the tools, and spend $30 on the plugs. I'd say it takes no more than one hour to change the plugs.
Other than that, I'd assume that there's probably a reputable mechanic in Katy, TX that knows Hondas and will charge you much less than $230.
Just my 2 cents.

BTW, talking about spark plugs, who often do you guys change it?
Does the MPG improves after changing?
Have any of you tried NGK Iridium IX? Cuz, I can't wait for them... of course, I'll wait until I have to change my spark plugs...

SummitRacing online or Kragen/Schucks/Checker. NGK Iridium =
Personally, I think $230 for plugs and labor at the dealership is a pretty fair price.
Figure ~$50 for the plugs and two hours labor. A couple of the plugs in the rear are a PITA.
I'd do it myself and save as much of that $230 as possible, but for dealer service, I think it's a reasonable.

50 dollars for 6 NGK `Iridium`- gen3 doesnt use the -IX version, thats for gen2
buy at local parts stores anywhere that sells NGK- accept nothing else!!
Very easy DIY- a few small tools and 1-1.5 hours slow labor
its only a pain if you dont have the correct tools
Dealer price on the plugs is 25 each! at parts stores the exact same plug is 7 dollars each!
If you dont know any ziners yet- go to the Off Topic link at top of page, then Meets section
find one happening in your area and write a few members for help- someone will take care of you
Seafoam is a good thing to do 1 week before plugs, gets their home all nice and clean
Yes!! better gas mileage with new plugs

I've never used them.
If you will do the job yourself..fairly easy if you have the plug adapter and good wrenches, along with a steady hand. I remember the first I've changes my plugs on my 00TL, the engine was still hot... the back row have burnt me pretty well...... So cool off the engine, lol.. and take your time..do not misthread or over tighten.
