I didn't want to pay $100 for the lighter/ashtray from the dealer so I ebayed it. I THOUGHT the lighter would be just a plug-in and go.Murphy's law kicks in again, it don't fit and it came with the whole socket.PLEASE tell me I don't have to take apart the dash to install a damn lighter.any tips/tricks?

 

No offense, but get a Bic. Get 2 and keep one in the console if you need to.

Then get one of those "cup holder" ashtrays.

IOW - don't muck up OE parts with "smokers" accesories, it'll reduce future value.

I hadn't had an OE "smokers package" for the past 3 cars. Never missed 'em.

 

I have 2 bic's in there at all times and the cupholder ashtray is already installed. Just recently my co-worker stole one bic and the other one died. I had to stop at the store to grab 2 new ones which delayed my smoke 10-15 minutes. (white/black/red lighters only to match interior)I just want to be 100% sure i got a light AT ALL TIMES but if i gotta rip out the dash I might just leave well enough alone

 

Basically, this bad misfortune on your part, is just another way of telling you to leave that smoking shit alone THUN!!!

Actually, it may not hurt resale in all cases. In this case, since the car has been smoked in - maybe depending on the condition later. Almost all of the clients I have (my company leases cars commercially), order the smokers package so that their drivers have somewhere to plug in their cell phone charges, laptops, etc. - not for the purpose of the cigarette lighter. Although, in our case with the TL we already have the power acc port there for us, so this general idea doesn't apply.

nevermind the smoking, the smell it leaves in your car, the tar gets attached to your interior, just gross. I could never understand how you could do that to your ride.
