Smoked by an Audi TT 250/236
Last night I was smoked by a red Audi TT coupe......
I was E/B Automall at 680. He cuts in front of me to get ahead at the lane leading to N/B 680 on-ramp. I moved to the left lane thinking I can take him....
I stayed back about 5' so he wouldn't see me (big mistake). I have my son with me and he seems to be alone. I turned the VSA off and waiting for the green....
When the light changed we were about even (speed wise) for 2 seconds, but I was still about 5 feet behind him, then I heard this incredible loud roar from the TT, and he pulled ahead. I ran out of real estate so I breaked and merged behind him, to get onto the on-ramp. All this happened in about 300-400 feet.
I checked the Audi website and now think it's a TT with 250 hp/236 tq.
I was in 5AT, the max. rev is about only 5,500, never redlined. I couldn't tell is the rev. limiter kicked in.
I felt kinf of bad, 'cause I thought TT was all looks............

As is noted above, a chip as well as some relatively minor turbo upgrades (boost contoller, intercooler) and those cars are really, really quick. Still ugly and just an upgraded Beetle (we call my friend's the SuperBeetle)

When you pull the car to 5500 rpm you are hardly ever in VTEC. VTEC is what gives us the power. You get to 5500 that means VTEC was engaged for about 2 secs then you shifted and probably dropped to 3000 rpms or maybe lower. If you would have atleast held the rpms to 6500 or 7000 you would have beat him or it would have been a lot closer.
If you want to race someone and not push the car to it potential you will lose all the time. Especially when the car has similar power.

I would expect you to lose if your not going to redline. Your missing out on 1300 RPMs of the most powerful part of the TL.
Sorry, but your drving skills made you loose the race.

If it's a TT 3.2Q then its NA, so a chip, if there is one available, wouldn't offer all that much of an improvement in performance. Either way, should you be racing with your son in the car?

You shouldn't feel bad about this simply because we are not comparing apples to apples. If you take a look at Audi TT spec. you will be surprised to find out that actually the 1.8T 4 banger comes incredibly close performance wise by our TLs.
FYI Audi 1.8TT, 1.8Turbo pulls 0-30mph in 2.2sec (TL=2.7sec) and 0-60mph in 7sec (TL=6.7). If we go by books our TL would beat the 1.8T marginally, forget about 3.2 liters. If that car was chipped I can guarantee that it was pulling 0-60 in lower 5 sec.
Better luck next time and choose your opponents carefully!

stock the tl should win... but if they have done any work there gonna be hard to beat. my friend anthony has a 1.8t gti. stock its only 180hp. buthe has a chip, intake, exaust, and pullies... his car has put down (in race mode) around 235-240hp to the wheels!!! more then a stock manual tl...
in street mode its still in the neighboorhood of 215-220. which aint nothin to laugh at....
his car weighs a bit less to.... and the turbo gives him great torque from around 2000 rpm on up....
we have run a bunch of times and it usually comes down to who gets the better launch...

I got hit head on by a kid drag racing at 80mph......so one reason i bought the TL was for its outstanding ratings in crashes..........ya i have to agree......that is not something to do with or without your son in the car......careful bro', people's lives change forever

You might have had a better chance had you been using the SS mode. Definatly holding second until about 65 would have kept up, but the TT was 4wd with slightly better #'s then the TL... It's going to have the edge no matter how "good" of a driver you are/had been...
