Smoked a 335

Yesterday I was just cruising on the highway in my Vette calmly passing someone in the left lane at around 70 when I suddenly see this Black 335 coupe riding my a--. Naturally, I move over to the middle lane for him to pass but he pulls up next to me and gives me this pissed look for some reason and gives me a free rev. The road was wide open ahead, so I figure this guy wanted some. I just got the car a few weeks ago and never raced anyone as of yet so it was my 1st chance to see the vette in action. I downshift to 3rd at 70 and as soon as I did he jumped on it (and jumped on me a bit). I reeled him quickly and was already pulling away at the end of 3rd. Took it to the end of 4th and before I knew it I was doing 150 mph! The guy was many buslengths back. Slowed down immediately as I was going way to fast, way to quick. These vettes are monsters after 100! I've had a bunch of boy racers try to antagonize me on the road (VERY annoying), but this is the first time i bit the bait. Anyway, that's enough racing for me for a while.

Yea, the Z51 has different 6 speed gearing than the base corvette. 3rd goes to 105 and 4th goes to 150. 5th supposedly takes it to the top speed around 186-190 mph. 6th is useless for gaining more top speed.

a chipped 335 with boost control running 15psi still only traps in the high 11's.. a Z06 stock can trap low 11's.. so

edit: although the OP has a c6 Z51 not a Z06.. still fast & capable of running a 335, but not as fast as a Z06.

Thanks everyone for the

I actually did some research on modded 335's on the bimmer forums. Here is a "Fully Chipped" 335i (Procede V2, dual cone intake, and race gas 335i) vs. a Stock Non-Z06 Vette. The 335i even Jumps on the Vette and it gets reeled in and pulled on.

I'm not a big fan of domestics but I know a monster when I see one and the C6 (from base to ZR1) is one of them.

Fully modded (exhaust, intake, chip, etc.) 335i can put 400+ to the wheels.

I highly doubt a base Vette (non-Z06/ZR1) can keep up with that.

Not saying either car is slow, just that one would be faster.

Yeah.. a fully modded C6 can put 800whp to the wheels. so... the C6 is faster. lol.. The z06 puts ~430whp down stock and weighs 300 lbs less than the 335i.

edit: the Z51 puts down ~370whp and is also 300lbs less but still has the aggressive gearing of the Z06.. I think the OP still would have won.

^ also... that video that 2k2 posted.. the details say the bolted & chipped 335i trapped at 116.16 in 12.3s... add the weight of the driver & vehicle.. rough hp at the fly is ~430hp so it's still around ~360 at the wheels and the base vette won.

That 335i I posted is one of the FASTER ones on the bimmer forums. Traps 116 mph in the 1/4 mile! FAR from any slouch.

The C6 Vette (even in base or more aggressive Z51 base form) is just a monster after 100 mph. You have to drive one to experience it....

A lot of folks not in the know tend to focus on the Z06 and ZR1 (and their very impressive performance) but fail to realize how already ridiculously fast the base model is, particularly with respect to its general power to weight ratio.

Honestly, when GM gets it right (i.e.: C6, CTS-V, G8), they really do hit it out of the park.

^Exactly. Take one of the newer C6 Vettes with the 6AT, add a high stall torque converter and I/E/longtubes and you're looking at a mid 11 second car. Add a cam, gears, and slicks and you're talking lower 11s.

Watching C6 Z06s at the auto-x is amazing. Something that big shouldn't handle so well. The cars are simply amazing for the money.

^I don't know what GM did, but the C6 is far more composed than the C5. Prior gen Vettes looked a bit loose, but with lots of understeer and scrub, more of a road course car. The C6 can do it all. Definitely one of my favorite cars. I'd be totally happy with a white Z51 C6 that is as quick as the C5 Z06. I laugh at people that act as if the Vette leaf springs somehow makes it a joke of a sports car. They don't have a clue.

It's so funny how people comment on the leaf springs, yet these C6 vettes can pull 1 g on the skidpad! It's really an unbelievable feat. Additionally, I love the fact that you can adjust the suspension ride height without spending a dime. Im thinking of lowering my Vette another 1 inch around, but my front chin guard already scrapes all over the place. We'll see...

Thanks again everyone for the

I think what he meant to say was a fullly bolted on 335 can put down 400+hp and there is now way a boltedon c6 can put down 800whp...but with FI it can do that for sure...with an upgraded turbo the 335 can do more than 400 to the wheels
