Smoke coming from my exhaust this morning
Hey all,
I had some kind of gas emitting from my exhausts this morning. I couldnt tell if it was the hot exhaust burning condensation or if it was something wrong witht hte car. There was no smell to the gas. Anyone else have this in the morning? It almost looked as if it were too much gas. But when I got to work, no gas. Is this ok?

yeah, it was somewhat chilly this morning. It just looked like it was more than exhaust fumes. Like there was too much smoke. But is it true that if it doesn't smell than it is ok?

What color was this smoke? Too much gas would of resulted in a black smoke. White smoke is either a result of a cooler morning/condensation and worst case white smoke could mean a blown head gasket but if that were the case the smoke would not have cleared up and had sort of a sweet smell to it. But I am thinking it due to a combination of cooler morning air and more humidity lately. Like I have noticed in the mornings now that summer is coming there is more dew on the grass.

I'm pretty sure it was just exhaust. Yesterday morning it was chilly here in northern Ohio and I did notice a lot of exhaust, more sometime then I had on winter mornings. I think it depends on the humidity and how chilly the temps are. Here it was in the lower 40's yesterday morning. I don't think it is anything to worry about.

Congratulations, you have successfully turned the engine on
(just kidding...the smoke was white? how fast did it dissipate in the air? any "new" smell?)

It was simply just water vapor. Starting a cold engine on a chilly morning with generally high humidity causes a lot of water vapor. That is why you see water dripping from the tailpipe of many vehicles in early morning before they get warmed up. No worry unless you see the same after driving at least 4 to 5 miles.

Whew, thanks for your posts az members. I believe it was just vapor due to a chilly morning and high humidity. The smoke was white, and there was no smell to the smoke. It just looked like a lot!

If it looks like vapor and was relatively clear and smells like chlorine then that is normal. Does your not normally do this?
If it is thicker white with a sweet smell, it is burning coolant.
If it has a grey tinge and smells like raw gas, then it is too rich with fuel.
If it is bluish with a burning smell this is oil.
If it is clear (fog like) and smells like chlorine, this is normal cold exhaust vapor.
