SMD vs LED PLEASE HELP

I know they are the same but what is the difference between bulbs with SMD vs regular LED? i want to get the kid on IJDM toys for interior lights but bulbs look diff then what everyone gets those SMD leds.

First of all SMD is just a general term which stands for surface mount diode. It doesn't mean anything in particular with regards to the LED's output.

However, in marketing, sellers typically refer to high current chip style LEDs as "SMDs" to distinguish them from more conventional 3mm/5mm LEDs which typically have much lower light output.

Generally "SMD" (chip style) LEDs have a much wider and brighter output than conventional LEDs.
