Skeptical about buying this TL...?f
Hey everyone. New here. I'm about to buy a 2006 Acura TL with about 80,000 KM (50,000 miles). Car is very clean in and out, even under has very little to no rust. I know, it matches with the low mileage but is there anything I can do to make sure the mileage hasn't been rolled back? No accidents reported either. I've checked the records and it's just showing "renewal" for every year since purchased.
Let me know what u guys think!

Well if the under body has very little to no rust (especially rare in Canada), I know what we all think...
I think it's safe to assume you found a low mileage car...
You could always ask about the history of the car and why it wasn't driven much.

Yup! I was also thinking maybe it's been stored for the winter months. I live in Canada so rust proofing will be one of the first things I do once I get it

If you do decide to get it, let us know!
I wouldn't be too skeptical.
It averages around 9000km a year, which isn't anything like a weekend car.
It could have been a daily, driven short distances back and forth from work.
Welcome aboard.

That's a good way of putting it. I'll definitely post some pics. Thanks a lot

I'm not sure if rust is really a definitive reference. I have an 05, bought it at 95K 3 years ago. It's at 175K today. I haven't done any rust proofing and the under body has very little rust, if not, only on the bolts (that hold heat shield, flange, etc) . I also don't have a splash shield. And yes, this is after 3 Canadian winters, with all the salt and sand they put on the roads, it's quite remarkable. I wont push my luck though and have ordered the full splash shield with a pack of 50 clips ill install before winter.
For car repairs, you might want to take a look at body welds, under hood, doors, trunk...if there was major cosmetic repair, the welds wont lie. And different color of the paint, which shows if paint was applied at different times

My 06 TL 6 speed has 38K miles. I only drive it to the train station. I'm looking around to get into 2013 535i, but I'm afraid the low mileage on my car will scare people off. I have proof of mileage with each smog inspections that is done every 2 years. The car also looks and drives like new.
There are low mileage cars out there....

For the last 3 years I am averaging 6K miles per year about 9K kilometers.

If the car is in good condition and the owner seems legitimate I don't think there's much to worry about. The majority of TL owners won't go through the hassle of having a new cluster installed to hide mileage. You may have found yourself a gem!

low mileage cars are not too uncommon
I bought my 02 CL-S with 38K on it and it was 4 years old at the time so just a tad under 10K a year
I bought my 2003 Subaru in 2014 (looking for a nice winter car) with 62K on it or roughly 5200 miles a year.
Things that should concern you
age/condition of rubber parts on suspension 10 years means rubber parts are not as new
timing belt is 10 years old
have any of the fluids been changed? (PS brake antifreeze)?
