Should I trade in my 2k4 for a 2k5?

I'm on a lease and we walked into Acura on Saturday to change the leasee name to my wife's name instead of mine cuz the bank wants us to. The leasing manager tells me that honda finance will charge $400 and the dealership charges $200 or something like that. Plus it takes TEN DAYS which is too much for us, we needed it quick.

So we say "no thank you" and walk out. As we're doing this the dude asks me to show him the car and asks a bunch of questions about it. So he ends up telling me that he can take back the TL and get me into a 2k5 for the same payment and faster than he can with the lease transfer.

Now it's obviously not to benefit me because now instead of three years left on the lease I'll have four again...but I'll get a new car which is kinda cool. Maybe I can work in a deal to get the A-Spec package and change from Black to Red or something.

Hmm.....

It's a L-E-A-S-E, why would you trade in for 2005 and add extra year to your payment. If you don't plan on buying the TL at the end of the term...then just drive the 2004. It's basically the SAME car with a few changes (nothing gained in HP) .

I would be torn as its always nice to have a new car...on the other hand, you got a lease in order to keep your car for the short term (I am assuming)...I know for me, I get tired of cars fast, so having the TL for a total of 5 years might be a bit much for me.

$600 does seem rather ridiculous, but I would rather pay that fee than an extra year of payments, particularly since it's basically the same car. Now, if the '05 had SH-AWD........

$600 and TEN DAYS! Why so long? It's kind of a piss off that they say it takes that long and costs that much but if I agree to get another car then it'll be free and a two day process.....

doesn't really benefit you, unless you really like the fact that you are in a new car again. the sales guy would have sold you twice on a TL basically. he squeezes an extra year out of the payments from you.

An extra year of payments? It would seem that he is going to have some sort of car payment that year anyway, whether it's on a TL or not. He's in the same situation right now anyway as far as the lease term and depreciation. He's not extending a 04, it will be an 05 so the depreciation starts over again.

The only valid questions are:

1. Can you stand another year of the TL than you expected?

2. Would you like to have a brand new car again?

3. Would you like to accomplish what you set out to do in the first place, and get a newer car, with some bugs worked out and have it for an extra year?

edit: Yes, I know #3 is a combo of 1 & 2 plus some extra.
