Service Reminder Question

I have <20% oil and the service reminder on the MID hasn't come on yet. Shouldn't it have shown up by now (I drive about 10,000 miles a year)?

The message will show up when you reach <15%

how can that computer tell you to service your car, lets use our brains here. if we can push a button and make it say 100%. does that thing sample your oil? change your oil every 3750 miles, rotate and balance your tires every other oil change. your good to go!

It uses a complex algorithm to determine your oil change interval based on a variety of factors...

No need for an actual oil condition "sensor."

Welcome to 2006.

No, really, I think you're the one who needs to think on your own...

The tire rotation frequency is moved up or delayed to coincide with the oil change interval, but most people rarely need tire rotation more frequently than 10k anyway, but that's JMO. Of course, if you see conditions that would constitute a more frequent tire rotation, you should do it, and I think the manual is clear on that too...

You reset the oil life monitor when you change the engine oil and filter. At that point, the oil life monitor starts at 100%. Individual driving conditions will determine how quickly the oil will deteriorate, so the oil life monitor will count down until its time for a service. If the oil life monitor is reset as recommended when the oil is changed, the % remaining displayed IS an accurate representation of the oil life remaining, but this is all provided that the engine is mechanically sound.

Most of the folks here have a regime they follow. Some do it with the MID and others will use a set mileage point. You can do it which ever way pleases you. You should also

Ones own judgement is just as useful as the technology present in today's vehicles. One can use their own judgement to tell when to rotate tires or change their oil, but not all people will know. Technology is there to assist us in this. It is called a service reminder for a reason, since some people, probably none on this forum, don't care much about the car, and simply take their car in when the internal computer believes that maintenance is required.

Nothing can replace the human brain and our own judgement, but face the facts. Some people do not think very well at times and need assistance in certain matters. I am not saying that about anyone in particular AT ALL either.
