Self oil change affect warranty?
Hey yall
Just did my first oil change at 3200 mi. I went with Motorcraft 5w20 and STP Filter. My question is how will doing your own oil changes affect the manufacturer's warranty?
thanks

One on the right for me
It wont void the warranty...if you are paranoid about them voiding the warranty keep your receipt but that shouldnt be necessary. I do all my own service on all my cars and have never had one problem with the dealership.

Owner's Manual, page 197, right hand column. Quoted in part:
"However, service at a dealer is not mandatory to keep your warranties in effect...Keep all receipts as proof of completion..."
I do my own oil changes, and while I do not fill out the maintenance record, I do have a book in which I record the mileage and date, and I keep the receipts for the oil filters, but not the oil (just never bothered, that's why).

excellent, thanx.
FYI..I just got my car back after they tried to fix the butt-prints issue. They replaced the padding beneath the leather to make the seat a bit more firmer. Too early to tell if it worked, but the seats are a lot more wrinkled, especially on the sides. I'll wait a couple of days and follow up with some lexol. ill post updates.

If somehow you damage the engine through your own oil change, the dealer would very likely not do warranty work on the engine. This kind of makes sense. Things as examples are leaving off the drain plug, not screwing on the filter correctly so all the oil blows out, putting in 10 quarts of oil, or 2 quarts, instead of the proper amount, using 20-50W oil in the winter, etc. If the dealer did those things, you'd be covered. If Jiffy Lube did them, you wouldn't (although you could probably get Jiffy Lube to cover the damage). Same with DIY changes.
