Seat belt buckle scratching B pillar

Anyone elses seat belt buckle rubbing on the B pillar, marking it up with scratches?

I looked for something to wrap around it ( like a rubber grip or a protective cover) but didn't find anything...

any thoughts?

I didn't think about that because I always thought it was the side of my pants or jacket leaving those scratches/scuffs when I enter/exit the vehicle.

Me too, its fairly bad. I try to be careful when I let the seatbelt fall back, but sometimes I forget. And then there's the passenger side...

I can't imagine how bad this will look in 2 years. ugh.

My wife and i had the same problem with her Mazda6....the problem like my TL is that the seatbelt buttons are too low....they should be higher so the seatbelt buckles do not touch the b pillars....the fix is to purchase a pair of seatbelt clips that clip on anywhere on the seatbelts....we placed them high enough on the belts so the buckles stay clear of the b pillars....i'm sure you can find them at any Auto parts store.

They fixed this problem in the 2005. Hopefully a 2005 member can show pics or exactly what is different from the 04 model.

If you're carefull when you remove your seatbelt and carefully move the buckle back into position you won't get any scratches. This procedure takes 2 seconds to do properly and will become natural after you do it a few times. It's just a little preventive measure that will keep the car looking nice. I even make a concious effort to get out of the car without crushing the bolster to keep the leather from wrinkling excessively. It only takes a few seconds but will pay off.

I have a solution for the seat belt buckle rubbing againts the B pillar.

Move the button about six inches up from the original position.

To do this, you will need a needle and thread.

It worked for me...now the scrathing and rattle is gone and there is enought space between the buckle and the pillar.

Hope this helps everyone...

Well, actually, it's said they attached the seatbelt to the seat for '05. But this could also mean they moved the inboard receiver to help protect the aluminum console trim. Or, it could just be that Acura decided it was easier to assemble that way. Until somebody compares them, we really don't understand what they've changed.

Could you protect the pillar with clear bra?

Could someone please post pictures of the scratches and showing the buckle position that causes the problem.

Could this be a case where an application of clearbra could prevent the damage?

The area next to the buckle on the aluminum strip on the console is what got all scratched up. My dealer replaced it after I called Acura customer service and got an official OK from them. I'm installing a piece of 3M paint protection film (clearbra) on that area, same as I have on my bumpers.

Acura is giving dealers the OK to replace the aluminum strip on a case by case basis, just call them and they'll alert your dealer. They know they screwed up on the design and had to change it to prevent it from happening on the '05.

I put the buckle all the way to the top in the grove where it comes out. It stays there.
As far as the driver side, well I leave it fastened and sit in front of it. Yes, I am not a fan of wearing my seatbelt.

This is a problem with the '01 - '03 MDX. They fixed it (or at least improved it) with the 2004 model by going to a woven material on the pillars.

My wife's '04 Pilot does the same thing. There's a guy on the honda-pilot.org forum that sells a clear, very thin 3M product specifically to address the problem. Maybe he'd be willing to make some for the TL as well.

What is Neuronbob talking about here? Buckle Holder? He also mentions it in his 1 year post (sticky).

Guys,

I applied some Aerospace 303 on the B pillars yesterday and it really helped to hide most of my scatches. I didn't wipe off any of the excess 303 so I guess it simply soaked into the scatches. I don't know how long it will last but it sure looks a heck lot better than before. Go give it a try. You have nothing to lose.
