Scratched Aluminum Console Trim; Is There a Possibility for a Group Buy?

So the silver trim that runs down my drivers side of the console is pretty scratched up. I know from searching through forums that I am far from being the only person with this problem, and I have ruled out wrapping it in Di-noc just because I like the stock look and because I'm lazy I guess.

I was just wondering if there are any vendors or anyone that has any connections to acuraoemparts.com that might could get an interested group a discount on the drivers side silver console trim, part #9, which now sells for $183.75. I know a lot of people could probably use this part, but now many of us really want to shell out that much money for one piece of interior trim.

This thread might be a lost cause but I figured it was at least worth a shot. Thanks fellas!

Why not wrap that trim in CF instead? they are much cheaper than buy a new one plus they tend to scratch easily.

Why not just contact Tim in the GB section? He can't be beat for OE prices...

Is there a DIY on how to remove them all safely? I'm thinking of hitting them all with some new paint.

Bruce, all you need is a screw driver, slip it under and pry up, try to feel the contact points where they snap in, otherwise you may snap one of the pieces.

Okay so a little birdie told me someone will be starting a feeler thread in the near future. He wanted me to post because he isn't at a computer.

He will be offering to wrap the trim pieces. Keep an eye out!!

TY for the tip.
CF scratches too though, I'm thinking a durable alum colored paint will do the trick.

Just gotta be careful. I bought my car used and it has MINIMAL scratching. Then again I always look at the seat belt when I put it on, and the person before me must have too.

I hope you guys realize just how screwed up Acura is. They have marked up many of the common wear items by up to 1000%. I bought a pair of these strips from Acura for around $75 a few years ago. Some items like the plastic near the door sill are 5x the price they were a few years ago. The kick panels... certain colors are several hundred dollars while others are $30. Whatever gets replaced a lot gets marked up. Its really shitty how they're doing this.

I can give you the additional 5% off that all ACURAZINE members get and $7.00 flat rate shipping, but that is the best I can do. Hope it helps. Let me know if you are interested.

Why not paint them with alum colored paint?

Thanks for all the replies everyone! It looks as though I might be going the Di-noc route after all unless I decide to shell out the money.

Would aluminum colored paint adhere well to the textured aluminum that runs down the sides of the Type-S? I assume it would take quite a but of prep work, and you would have to do your doors as well for it all to match.

Also has anyone actually done this? I would be curious to see how it looks.

I actually have noticed that it is painted. Screw that crap about replacing these high dollar parts being they get scratched easily I guess... But then again I did buy my car as a CPO back in 09 and some of those scratches were there already and peeling.. Either they scratch easily or maybe the previous owner maybe slightly careless

Yeah I believe you're right. The paint is what gets scratched so easily then underneath is aluminum. I might go the Di-noc route, I'm a little worried about doing a good job on it, but I'm more worried about my skills as painter haha.

It's been done before. I like to keep the car looking OEM. I would have bought several sets of these if I had known Acura would be marking them up by 488%. One of my old ones had a dent which is why I replaced them plus they were cheap. When the new ones get worn out I'll probably paint them. I can afford them but there's no way I'll support what Acura is doing here. It's flat out wrong.

Does anyone know if painters tape will protect the trim from scratching? I noticed a scratch when I after picking my car up from getting an oil change and am positive the tech, or someone there scratched it.

IHC is correct, the markup on wear items is just ridiculous.

I would think sand and hit it with some krylon fusion, that should do the trick
