ronjon Body kit review
As you guys might see on my other thread, someone just hit my car.
I'm considering one of my option, which is to get the body kit... I don't think Aspec will work since it's only attachment... and Ronjon's is the whole bumper replacement....
So I need input from Aziner that have the RonJon's body kit:
1. From Ronjon's site... it's said that it can be painted to our car color... Does the color match? my car color is Antracite Metalic
2. I'm going to have ship installed it for me, especially with all the damage... but how is the fitment?
i would really appreciate any other input...
Thanks everyone

i had the rear bumper only fitment was pretty good. i also ordered it painted, i had the same color as you. the color was way off. i had to have it repainted. i wouldn't have them paint it. take it to a body shop near you and have it done there. certain colors are hard to match. look in their site check the photo gallery you'll see some anthracites with the color mismatch. others are perfect the NBP's (black) dont have this problem.
so, fitment and quality is good. have someone else paint it. hope this helps

The RonJon body kits look awesome...I would love to have one. Even if you have an 07 or 08, they make them for those model years too. Now is a good time to get one for sure.

I have the whole kit. The fitment isn't perfect but its not way off either. You defenitely want to get it raw and get it painted at your shop because like I said the fitment isn't perfect. So the body shop will need to put it on your car, stretch it out a bit, mold it, possibly shave it in certain places and make it fit right and then they can prep, prime and paint. This is the way I wish I did it so that I didnt have to pay for paint 2x and wish someone told me.
Please dont make the same mistake I did.
I am not bashing his kit one bit, I just want you to know how to get it right. Once the kit is on, its problem free and the compliments you'll be getting is endless!! I dont regret my decision one bit.
His wheels on the other hand... flawless, fit was perfect and no rubbing no issues at all!! RJ all the way to be different from the rest of the TL's.

i was one of the first 20 to order the kit when it first came out. i gave a $700 deposit on the entire kit. at first the individual pieces had a price. painted and unpainted. i changed my mind on getting the whole kit because i didn't like those vent holes on the side skirts or the front. i called and ask RonJon if i could only get the rear. he was very hesitant, $700 was the price for the rear painted. after a couple of calls he agreed to give me just the rear. he said he didn't want to have a bunch of incomplete kit parts left over. i guess they make them as one whole kit.
installation was free i did it myself. its pretty easy it uses all the OEM mounting points. check the TL garage there are some videos on how to remove the rear bumper to install you just do it in reverse. same goes for the other parts. the shop shouln't charge you more than $300 to install the whole thing.

Thanks for the review guys... I think I'll get it.
Question: What is the difference:
-Polyurethane only: $1500
-Prepped and Primered: $1900
which ones should I got?
out of curiosity: did you guys save the original bumpers / skirts?

get it raw, I know the kit would be best if the edges were sanded to meet the panels better. We actually leave a little more material on there so that the shop can sand or remove the material to best suite your car. Every car is ever so slightly different, and its easier to remove than add.

It should come to the same cost as you buying ready to go from Ron Jon if you're done all that other work already. Maybe even a little less. Usually his price is cheaper if your not doing any body work already at the shop, but since you are, you should get a good price.
Post wat you get, I'm curious.

I ask the body shop that going to fix my car....
to prime, paint and put body kit on 4 sides... it's $1000. Not sure if that's too steep.
From RJ:
-Polyurethane only: $1500
-Painted metalic: $2150
$650 painted
1000-650 = 350(installation

No That's actually pretty decent price to prime and prep all 4 pieces. You're looking at about 250-300 just to paint a OEM bumper. You can prolly bargain him down 100 or 200 bux if you're good at negotiating since you're car is in there for all that other stuff but I think the price you're gettng is reasonable.
Remember he's not only painting it hes making sure that when you drive off that kit is going to fit perfect!!

How big is the box that comes from Ronjon?... Probably I should just have it shipped directly to the body shop... since I don't have any truck to carry it.
Just curious... did you guys save all the original bumper? I wonder if I decide to save it, how to take it home? considering the sizes... hmmm

also, is the RJ front piece really 1.5" lower (from ground) than the original? How bout rear and side?
'cause I'm about 1.7" lowered on Tein SS... I already feel that it's too low with original bumper already.. can't imagine with RJ kit (1.5" lowered).. prob, I need to raise it up little bit then...

Tell me about scraping man.... Yes it looks good, but I kind of get tired of it also... sometimes when you drive in "not known" area in certain speed, and suddenly there is a "unseen" dips up front, it's too late to break, ... those scraping sound just make me sick to my stomach.... I especially hate the "plastic thing" up front.... that scrapes all the time...
so, can you confirm that it's 1.5" lower? front and rear?
probably I just have to raise my teins at least .5 higher then... to compensate the kit height...

Omar, RonJon only sells the complete kit (nose, side skirts and tail). You cannot purchase them separately. Rondy has pictures on his site with '07 and '08 TL's with the driving lights in the nose, so they ARE made for your '08 Type S. I'm sure the tail will fit, but the pictures posted on his site do not show the rear end.

As far as buying them in pieces you maybe right on that one, because I dont know. The rear pieces will mount up however it will not accomodate the dual tip exhausts of the TYPE S and would need to be modified.

Ok... I broke down and bought the kit. Just got off the phone with RJ. I'm having it shipped to the body shop, and it will be here in a week. I sure hope this goes well!
PS: I also want to mention that Ron was EXTREMELY courteous and helpful to me on the phone. Very informative on everything I should know, and what I should let the body shop know. Thanks Rondog and it was a pleasure meeting you!
