Floating A.

It still looks aggressive, but not too overdone/ricey.

It just makes you take a second look and think....dang...that looks nice.

My vote is for option 4. I love how it looks as-is. Don't get me wrong I love the floating "A" but I just don't think it looks right on your color (not starting a nbp war here, lol) I just don't think the chrome emblem "pops" like it does on NBP. I love the agreesivness of how your already setup. This being said I wouldn't might seeing some nighttime shots of both

edit: Argh!! I was wondering why the poll was closed. Damn newbie resurected this thread from the dead, lol... oh well, I'll keep my opinion posted anyway!

Hahahaha...I think he decided to leave it open Brad. At least that is the way it is on his pics. No matter what though, nice job on the grille fellow grille-meister!

It's still as-is because my freezing ass had enough of the 45 degree garage. Just waiting for it to get "warmer out" to complete my grille mod. darksom says the time for grillin is when it's warm!

I have clearly seen that the winner of the polls is #2. But I am still torn between #1 and #2.....#3 is out. I've been rolling as #4 for almost 4 months now and it really is too plain for me.

As Evader said, it seems like the floating A seems to pop better on darksom's car. My car is modded in an A-spec kinda way and I like that little emblem there I think as it retains a good degree of aggressiveness as well. Plus it is different. PPLAPW sold his car so I can safely say my car is like no other with the #1 treatment. I am going to try this for awhile. I am sure I'll get sick of the look after awhile and then I'll alternate to #2 later.

TBC.........

#1 is looks sick. It's more of a sporty look and I kind of like how it makes it an uneven look

OK, I got my A-spec emblem on now. I'm gonna roll like this for awhile. (I can already hear the boos from some of you. lol.) I'll do the floating A in the summer.

with the eyes and open grille, sure looks aggresive.

You take off the bumper and take most of the center grille off. Then you cut the remaining plastic support and bondo up the holes on the sides. Then you paint and add mesh.

I would just like to know why people are searching YEARS into the past? I find it annoying when someone comments idiotically on threads like, "I like this" or "lol".

In this case, someone is interested in the mod, so I don't mind so much, but damn... to ressurrect such an old thread.

Don't do this if you aren't good with cutting, sanding, and bondoing. It will NEED patience and precision. Good luck with themod.

To answer about the question on tires; that is darksom's car and he is running Goodyear Eagle F1 GS D3s, beautiful tires and he loves em.(sad I know what tires are even on other people's cars, lol! I've been on here too long!)

mrloba you are right, the grille I have looks very much like a tuner edition grille that you would find on many cars. I saw a Maxima the other day with the same grille as mine and instead of A-Spec his emblem says "Nismo". They call it a JDM grille. The difference is his grille comes readymade and I had to make mine from scratch! Seems to me the sportiest editions of most cars have this recessed mesh grille theme going so I'm glad I went this route. Everywhere I go people notice it. Most people have a hard time even knowing my car is a TL.

Thanks csmenace for the summary! I outlined what I did on page 1 but I'm sure most people pay more attention to pics than words. You are a walking Wikipedia of TLs man!

Nothing new, I am at the same stage as post #50. Still looks good nearly a year later. The CF is starting to slowly fade a bit so in the spring I will redo it.

Sorry for annoying anyone with the resurrected thread but I'll discuss something new here, I wanted to ask opinions on something else:

I touched on this a few times on other threads but awhile ago I thought of doing something to the inserts on the A-Spec I've seen it done monotone or black and it wasn't for me. I wanted to do Carbon Fiber. Not that I am crazy about it, it just goes well with my grille, anthracite and carbon fiber roof spoiler. ua6spec did it 2 years ago and it came out AMAZING! He spent crazy money on it though. I wanted to see if I could do something similar last year using vinyl overlay. I didn't discuss it with the forum, wanted to do a surprise mod. I bought a huge roll of the stuff. I knew the front was doable but I wanted to try the rear A-Spec first. MASSIVE fail! HAHA! Too many compound curves, even with a blowdryer or wet application, it was never going to work as a 1 piece installation. I abandoned it.

A couple months ago I decided to just slap it onto the front A-Spec out of curiosity just to see what it would look like. I literally chopped it and wrapped it on. It is a crap job full of bubbles, but it looked pretty damn good so I left it on there. I will probably leave it on till it falls off this winter. What do you guys think? I will revise a plan on how to do the rear and I will redo the front in the spring properly. It goes great with the grille.

Wow, I like! I thought it was the UA6Spec ones

How hard was it to put on and link to where you got that vinyl, unless you plan on selling it

Thanks man, like I said I just haphazardly slapped that on in like 15 minutes. I intended just to check it off and rip it off. Actually it looked so good I just left it on there. It is one of the newer generation vinyls and looks pretty real, that's the reason I bought it! It has a 3D weave pattern so when the sun hits it, it gives a pretty textured appearance. It's available on Ebay, I got a 15ft. roll of the stuff. Actually I asked for a sample kit first. That gave me a choice and I matched it up with what worked with my car. I THINK I bought this one, the Type II. But take a look at type III, not bad either:

Is your car lowered? If not can you send me picks of the side and close up of the wheels? I want to get A-spec rims without lowering the car, wonder how it will look.
Thanks

Thats faux-CF correct?

Man I've been looking for some CF fabric so overlay on some parts but I can't find it! The CF sheets on eBay are too thick to conform. I think if you got a hold of the CF fabric, the rear Aspec would be "easy"... more like doable.

Andy my car is lowered now. When those pics were taken on page 1 the car was not lowered. I will PM you with pics.

jmkiang, I thought of the many options and I even thought of the option of fabric too. When I saw the cost of it, I fainted. If I spent a couple hundred more I could get the pieces that were on ua6spec's car back when he was offering them to have them custom made. I bugged him for awhile but then when I saw that it would cost nearly the cost of the A-Spec kit itself I had to wake up....Call me cheap. I spent $50 on the vinyl stuff, it looks convincing. With the money saved my car is sitting on Teins now.

Option B. It looks clean, and still custom. "A" just doesn't look right to me, "C" is too busy, and "D" is too plain.

So sad ... I liked the UA6Spec CF front so much I bought one. Unfortunately, this is how it arrived and there are no more available through UA6Spec/KB1Spec I guess your option would work rockyfeller but then the faux CF would clash with the real CF on my trunk deck ... your overlay really looks damn good though; I thought it was a UA6Spec lip as well. Love the grills, upper and lower

still sporting #1. The longer I live with it, the more it grows on me. It's unique now, my own trademark. I am going to renovate the grill in the spring with the readymade replacement mesh grille that is in the more recent threads.

Floating "A" rocks! Nice Anthracite btw. Dammit...now I might do that mod. This site is dangerous. Every time I visit this forum I find another thing I want to do to my car. Guess that isn't a bad thing though, no shortage of ideas.
