Road Trips

I am leaving for a road trip with my TL next weekend and was wondering if anyone had taken their TL on a long journey yet. If so can you give a little insight into how it handled and what type of gas mileage you got.

Thanks!

Went to Florida in late Feb-handled great w/31-33 mpg. Found the seats to be very comfortable having spent 13 hours on the road one day. Put on about 3200 miles in about 12 days.

Thumbs up Trip to Midwest.

Based on what I know, a couple of persons had done the long trip driving with this 04TL. (From five great lakes areas to Colorado, Toronto to Florida, New York to Florida...)

I did it around November, 11 days, 3200 miles, from NYC to Little Rocks, AR, 26-33 MPG during the trip, cuising speed is around 60-90 MPH. Quite comfortable and easy handling, Navi had the great helps. Actually, we didn't bring any piece of Maps. I saw two 04TL on my trip at that time, DMM in Nashville, Anthracite in Pittsburgh.

Enjoy your rides.

Seattle to Los Angeles and back, two days after I picked up the car. I did the return trip straight throught, 16 hours of driving. It was the most comfortable car I have ever driven...I even had the cruise control set at 120 at one point.

As for mpg...26, both ways.

Wicked.

Day 1 in the TL was just over 800 miles at 12 hours. So very comfortable I could have driven 12 more.

Beats anything I've ever driven across country. And I've driven just about every model (available from rental companies) in their full size and luxury line line-up.

Cool

Well I went to Miami, FL from Columbia, SC with my wife, her sister and a friend. It was a sweet drive all the way down. We took turns driving the car and it handled like a dream. Both the back and front seats are very comfortable. I was very pleased with the handling and power of the car. The TL was drawing a lot of attention while we stopped for gas a few times (most times it was because of the sharp, good looks of the car but it could have been for another reason I don't want to go into... ) because most people still don't know what type of car it is and who makes it. We also saw someone else on the way down to Miami in a 2004 TL (Desert Mist Metallic) which looked pretty good but I'm really happy with my choice of color (Anthracite Metallic).

Handling on a road with a lot of road construction (and potholes) like I-95 in Florida really impressed me. Gas milage was pretty good considering I only have driven the TL for about 3,200 miles before the trip (24-26 miles highway and about 20-21 city). I only allowed the car to get a little below half-empty before filling up again due to the common traffic jams on I-95 due to accidents, road construction or rush-hour traffic. I think you will be just fine in your TL!

PS - Anyone who goes to Miami be prepared to keep the outside of your windows clean because of the smog in the air (I could be wrong about this and it may have been a seasonal thing...someone from Miami let me know if I'm wrong?????). Some type of greasy film kept coating my windows on the outside (along with the rest of the car). I had a microfiber towel and auto glass cleaner with me to help clean the bugs off my front window but, instead, use it most often to clean the film from all of my windows (and, believe me, we didn't ride with our windows down the entire time we were in Miami except for the beach ).

I have travelled the Mid Atlantic corridor a few times, and the TL handles better than any other car.... Dirivng down 95 with the trucks all over, it is nice to be able to maneauver around when needed.. I dont mean aggresively, but just not have to stay behind a truck!

With my old car I would nod off if tired driving.... with the TL, I am kept awake just by the thrill of driving it.

One of the reasons I got this car.. was the feel of the road!

Not a real long trip but just drove from Dallas to San Antonio and back – wife in the passenger seat and 2 kids in the back. All our luggage for a 5 day vacation (the kids bring a lot of stuff) fit very well in the trunk with room to spare. Total trip was 697 miles, averaging 26 mpg and 52 mph. This included driving around San Antonio to various places. On the drive there and back when I could get on open road, I traveled about 85 (I35 between these cities always has a LOT of traffic – mostly driving in the left lane :smackhead ). The ride was very comfortable the whole way. Navi was great – no maps. I put in the hotel destination and 30 minutes into the trip when the kids started asking “are we there yet”, “how long till we get there”, I quickly trained them to look at the screen at any time to get an answer. The kids thought it was cool and I drove in peace. Loved it!

3 weeks ago I drove from Columbia SC to NYC. My TL was properly break in then with 1500 milage on it. The round trip makes it a 1700 mile drive.

The gas milage is excellent! I have 32 mpg on my trip computer and the ride is comfortable. Many people complained about EL42s but I found it great and I was driving my TL in the snow. The handling and the breaking was excellent!

I've driven from Dallas to Houston and back at least 3 or 4 times since I bought the car. Great ride... especially with the XM - you never run out of tunes or things to listen to. I usually average about 32 or 33 mpg on those trips.

Chicago-Cleveland, 756 miles round trip, avg speed 70 (highway miles mostly 80-85), 26 mpg. The car handled just fine and the ride was very smooth and quiet. This is a very comfortable car for a trip; I felt no driver's fatigue at all.

Did about a 1000 mile trip a few months back. The car was wonderful; it is really well suited to be a long-distance cruiser.

I think I got around 25-26mpg for the trip.

Enjoy your trip.

You guys are making me depressed. I'm going on vacation next week - NJ to SC/NC and had hoped to be driving my new TL. Especially trying it out on the windy roads in NC Blue Ridge area.

No luck! Won't be delivered in time.

the farthest i drove my car was from cerritos to coronado in san diego. it's like a 250+ mile trip going there and back. i must say that i was really impressed. mileage...hmmm..around 25-30 because sometimes i was kind of gunning it . the seats were great and i didn't feel tired. i think i was going pretty fast. averaged around 90 mph and went up to 130 one time(just for a little while). that trip just made me LOVE my TL more....

Since you're going to Blue Ridge in NC, you may go Tail of Dragon if getting time. Although it's ideal for motorcycles, I thinks it's not bad for cars.

Sorry to know you couldn't ride your TL...
