That guy is nuts! Glad you had video of it, otherwise it would be your word against his. He should be charged with assault too. You weren't even tailgating him. He's DRUNK no doubt, keep us posted if the police find him.

No matter how many times you repeat yourself, people never learn. Tires determine how quickly the car stops, not the brakes. The 5at with it's 11.8" 1 piston calipers stopped shorter in some of the mag tests than the 12.2" brembo 4 pot brakes. That's because brakes don't matter, tires do. My 13" Rotora brakes took farther to stop than my stock 5at brakes because they messed up the brake bias.
You can't base anything on a video, it's completely subjective. Measured stopping distances in feet are the only way to compare.
Most people that have a problem with cops are the ones that break the most laws. I've had my share of asshole cops but I've never had more than a fix-it ticket and I've been pulled over doing a rolling burnout, driving on the sidewalk, etc. My friends that are cops have been ticketed by other cops, especially when out of town. Cops don't always get off easy. I can speak from personal experience, the cops I'm friends with were not the ones getting picked on in school. They were the ones having fun and getting into trouble but definitely not getting picked on, not by a long shot.

The camera is a DOD GS300. It records in a little higher definition, but I reduced it because of size. Also, that camera is one I hadn't used in a while and I didn't have all the settings perfected on it for the best picture at night.
I was thinking I heard that again later too.
That was the first thing to cross my mind when I saw the video
Yeah, it was. Knowing now that he was going to hit me, I would have, but truthfully, not thinking about the camera at the time, I figured if I went forward and he turned into me, he would have said I rear ended him. I guess he could have said that like this too, but I thought, if I'm completely stopped, maybe there would be a witness, there is no way it would be my fault. I was also really trying to avoid being next to or in front of him.
OEM rotors, Wagner Thermoquiet pads I think. After the 3rd time changing those expensive OEM pads, I couldn't justify it anymore. I could have probably braked a little smoother, but I was really caught off guard by the fact he was coming to a complete stop.
LOL. If you are referring to the south county muni off 55, that was me. They agreed to shut that speed trap police department down after our investigation during the federal lawsuit revealed all sorts of bad things; something with nearly everyone of their cops. I'm talking drugs, child porn, soliciting sex from a minor so she could avoid a ticket, false charges on people, "creative" report writing, extortion, theft of city funds, and so on. We agreed to drop the suit if they did that.

In for updates as well.
But I have to ask... at 0:35 when he started backing up, why didn't you move around the left? I don't know where the camera was, but it seems like you were (understandably) across the line, and had some space to go around. Obviously I wasn't there, and hindsight is 20/20, but it looked like an option.

As a fellow TL owner and St. Louisan this sucks. I hope you find that douche and he's prosecuted to the full extent of the law. As for other posters asking about dash cams, the St. Louis Metro area is notorious for having crappy municipality cops push around people over traffic violations. 1 mile of highway may cross 4 different municipalities with 4 different cops patrolling it. These cops were busted based off of someone having a camera in their car. It eventually closed one department in the area because their cops were so abusive after an investigation took place.

So I take it that is the off-ramp at Arsenal and 44? Dude was probably coming from Nick's Pub.
Anyway, I was gonna say, send that video to Jalopnik or the guys over at KMOV. I'm sure they'll help you track him down or at least shame "Tyler" into coming out of hiding, or maybe his booty call will give him up since he was obviously compensating for something in driving that Range Rover.
Btw, nice pic infront of the stadium.

Found this camera which was highly recommended on another forum I freq. I like it's design and the way it works. Also a bit higher quality videos.

Damn OP glad you're ok and sorry about the TL. BTW what's the damage on your reverse gear. I know he messed it up when he backed into you and you were tryin to move. No one asked. Have you gotten it fixed yet? And I hope they catch this dude.
I wasn't thinkin that way as to why the OP didn't move to the left. I was wondering why he didn't back up as the guy was backing up (that's how his reverse gear was ruined), but then realized he was on the off ramp.
In for updates as well.

I was headed home from a 16 hour day at work at about 2am and had to deal with this...
Video NSFW because of language
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9AenPUjpIM
I came up on this guy, he was going 40MPH on the interstate, but I had to get behind him to exit. He decided I was too close, so he brake checked me. I stopped, but then I didn't want to get next to him or in front of him. I could hear him yelling and a female in the vehicle yelling at him to stop and go home. He then pulled forward and reversed his Range Rover into me. He was clearly intoxicated.
He then pulled away like nothing happened. I called the police with his plate number and followed. About 2 miles later, he pulled over, I stopped far behind, and he tried to exit his vehicle, but the female held him in. Then he made a U-turn, drove on the wrong side of the road and tried to hit my driver's side. I went forward so he didn't hit me again. We went on down the road and I happened to see an unmarked police car going the other direction. I flagged him down and he went after the guy. We were only a short distance away, but he turned a corner and quickly disappeared.
The Range Rover had car dealer plates and I have a pretty good description and can recognize him. The vehicle is currently wanted and the driver will be arrested for 2nd degree assault which is a felony charge in Missouri.
The exterior damage isn't really all that bad considering an SUV drove up on the side of it. I'll need two new doors, fender, and a mirror though. Also my reverse (6-speed) is no longer working. I was putting it in reverse right when he hit me.

Coming from the guy with a tinted front windshield.
Let me ask you this, would you rather have a cop going after this guy or responding to an armed robbery/bar fight/assault/rape etc.?
OP was not in immediate danger, there little threat of harm, in fact, he was the one following the guy (I'm not saying this was wrong, I would have done the same thing).
So let me ask you this, your mother's house is getting broken into, a robbery in progress, do you want the cops to respond to this call of a hit and run or to your mother?
On another note, law enforcement agencies are getting cut back and they're running on skeleton crews on every watch. Responding to everything is just unrealistic, have a problem with that? Talk to your local politicians.

In the second bold OP states that he has more video, we heard his worded story but also seeing the prior video would solidify his worded story. OP I am in no way saying you are a liar, Im just stating that in every accident everyones story is the right and innocent one. Although there are people who do admit fault. I believe from what i saw, that the OP will win in court. VanyDotK im not picking on you either, i just think if someone had the balls to back into me like in the video and then tells me " get the fuck off of me" like said in the video. I would consider myself in harms way. Whats to stop him if he just turned around and started ramming the car? Obviously and thankfully it didnt happen. That is my opinion of the video and story of course, but right now we are here for bbplayer and hope to see him win his case.

In for OP updates. And to everyone saying they will "bust out their SIG, 9mm in the chest" ext. you won't do shit. If you feel this way you shouldn't be open carrying or conceal carrying handguns. Its people like you that give responsible gun owners a bad name. Now if the guy took out a switchblade and came to the window, well that's a different story...

Based off of what OP said in the first bold I would say OP was in clear and immidediate danger. (Hopefully OP has video of when the range rover drove on the wrong side of the road which would further back up his case)

You are right. The tires are what is your contact patch to the ground. The brakes will lock those tires up so that isn't the problem, the problem is keeping traction and you can only brake so far before the tires give up. Better the tire, the better you will brake.

I don't know how your experiences have been so far here in Bakersfield but this town has a fair amount of angry drivers. I ended up in a fight in the middle of Coffee and Rosedale because apparently letting off the throttle and coasting to the redlight instead of flooring it and slamming on the brakes makes people mad. That was a bit embarassing as that's not exactly a small intersection. Lots of witnesses. For some reason, the guys in the lifted trucks love to mess with the TL. When I'm in the other car, no one messes with me.
