Ride out the winter with HPT'S?

The only 6MT in NBP I could find was one that had the HPT package. I also opted for the 18 inch upgrade rims. I was upset that they came with the HPT 's for my 17's becuase they are horrible, however in the dry weather they are very good. Should I ride it out for the winter with these on and try to drive our other car as much as possible or should I get some cheapo winter tires? Anyone having probs with these tires in the snow. If the slightest amount of snow is on the ground i slide/

Friend of mine has a 2004 Saab 9-3 Vector and she has the Pirelli Rosso's on her car which are ultra high-performance summer tires. She can barely move in any snow whatsoever and her traction is terrible in cold wet/rainy weather as well.

Your options are endless:

Buy 18" snow tires for your current 18's

Buy 18" all season tires for your current 18's

Buy 17" snow/wheel package and swap out

Buy 17" all season tire/wheel package and swap out

I would just go to tirerack and weigh your options and prices and go from there.

Coop,
See my post here: http://acura-tl.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=70362
Same concerns as you. And I've already got stuck once on the slightest incline and a little bit of snow. I wouldn't risk it. I ordered a set of falken 512.

Hopefully she doesn't drive your TL with the HPT's in the winter?!?

Well, hopefully winter will be short for you this year and you get to business driving your TL with some dry pavement in front of you.

Yea I hear ya!! No she does not know how to drive stick (another reason to buy manual!) but she gets ticked that she cannot drive it and it is an "inconvenience" to us! Yea winter should be over withing 2 months so I m gonna ride it out with them. My main reason for being ticked is I really have not need for summer tires for 17's because I am just gonna put the 18's on when it is warm!

Ohhhhhh, you are a wise, wise, wise man, Coop....wiser than your number of posts would suggest!!! I bought the 6MT too....and as a side benefit, almost no one else can drive it.

Nah, my car gets delivered on Feb. 6th - Anth/Eb 6MT with just the 17" EL42's.

Rumor has it that TL's rolling off the lines after Feb. 1st are going to have "new" tires - who knows if they will merely be reworked EL42's or what.

I have the same here, i have the HP model tires, which are summer tires and then A-SPEC tires (which are even worse in the snow).
Let me tell you this, your HP tires would do better than the 18
yokahama, i've driven in both.
Trust me, don't even try to touch your if its snowing, another thing is that the 18 inch doesn't do good in rain too.

So your saying that the 18" Yoko ES-100's are POOR in the rain? My 17" HPTs (Pontenza RE030's) are GREAT in the rain.

The lady next to me at my office parking lot has HP summer tires on her E500. Seems to be OK in this year's winnter in NJ. Acura is FWD so it should be even better.

Snow is bad enough with the HPTs...on dry pavement if cold out they have very little traction. With the Pilot Alpin snows I put on, same size, the car is transformed. I can actually floor it in second without spinning the tires.
