Regarding the Acura Certification Process....(CPO Cars)

Hey all, just a question for those more well equipped to answer it...
I am curious as to whether or not past body repair work is factored in when Acura gives a car the CPO listing. Also how is carfax factored into this and what happens if someone finds out after the fact that their CPO Acura has had repair work that they weren't informed of.
Thanks again.

I would guess anything that is not CARB certified or not being able to be purchased from an acura dealership. I would guess that Comptech Parts would be acceptable as dealers sell it.

Trust me CPO means nothing other than a good look over if that. But what it does provide is a warranty. That is basically what it is and what you are buying when you purchase cpo.
And yes wrecked cars can be CPO. Try and get them to send you exactly what their standards are. You can't because there is no set guideline. Their CPO process is vague for a reason. I purchased CPO but I knew I was really only paying extra for an extended warranty.

Thanks for the answer. The reason for the whole question is that today when I took my car in for service, an 06 TL CPO, the service tech informed me upon pickup that it had been repainted and was I aware. He showed me the evidence and marked it in the report.
Later I find out through tracking back, it's not listed as having any repairs on carfax, and I assume that the damage was done and repaired by the previous owner (1 owner car) under the table before trading it in. When I called my sales dealership, they tracked down information and said that THEY repainted it and did not disclose it, and even quoted the exact amount of the repair for "serious scratches on the rear." I just feel like the dealership was being very shady about the whole thing and wonder if maybe they went to other "means" to get the car tagged as one for Acura's CPO program.

Yep, realistically certified doesn't mean much at all. Most tasks are quick visual inspections. Dealers have paint work done all the time and almost always withhold doing so.

cpo means absolutely nothing. as the other fellas' have said, its a means of getting an extra year of warranty coverage.
don't believe anything the sales guy tells you. ask for a itemized list of all work done to "certify" the vehicle. the most dealerships will do is an oil change if you're lucky. my sales guy blew smoke up my arse saying they spent $2000 to certify my tsx. i didn't know oil changes cost $2000 these days, which is all they did to "certify" my 07' tsx.
if indeed they repaint it and did not disclose it on the itemized list, that is fraud and i would either a)not take delivery of the car since you were under the impression you were buying an oem spec car or b)get a discount of the total price of the car since the car is no longer oem spec.
at least haggle and try to get 10 free oil changes or something that would be equivalent to the loss value as a result of the paint job. "scratches"? please. i would go as far as getting your insurance company to appraise the vehicle and check to see if the impact absorber or any other parts are damaged - who knows how those "scratches" got there?

Some ahole wrecked my car eariler this year. Per the dealership, they cannot give it the CPO designation because of the bodywork/fact that it was towed (ie it shows up in carfax). I have my suspiscions they told me that so they could offer me less in a trade in, and would be willing to assume the additional risk and slap the CPO tag on it to sell it for more. Body work is body work, if the shop is at all reputable it should last for the maximum 5 years or whatever the CPO warranty would last for. They're more worried about the carfax report being read by the potential customer than the actual condition of the repairs, as long as the car isn't completely f'd up.
