Red Line Oil / Transmission Oil

This is direct from Red Line! Frank,
Thank you for contacting Red Line Oil, in both the Acura and Toyota automatic transaxles the D4ATF would be recommended, providing the most consistent performance, the best fluid for these applications. The D4ATF matches the frictional and overall fluid characteristics required by these transaxles.
The Racing ATF is a non friction modified, non slippery fluid, recommended for some applications but not the best for all and not recommended with a lock up torque converter. Use in that case can lead to shudder on engagement and possibly a transmission ECU fault code. Some are using the Racing ATF to change the shift characteristics of automatic transmissions designed for a friction modified fluid, to provide a firmer/harder shift, though with a lock up torque converter clutch, increasing the percentage with the resulting reduced slipperiness can adversely affect it’s performance.
We try to make the best products possible, though one is not the best for all uses, the ATF's use the same synthetic base stocks with different additive packages.

Regards, Dave

Gives you something to think about when you do the 3x3 or 4x3 or etc... I currently have 61K on my 2008 Acura TL Type-S and plan on a transmission oil change at 62k, 65k and 70k! Hope this helps for those who are up in the air about the ratio between D4ATF and Racing ATF.

There's a thread called "The Optimal Percentage of Racing ATF" that already covered this 1 year ago...

One problem we do not have is shudder with the torque converter. I've been in many Ford vehicles that will shudder, especially with a Type F but it's really not a concern with the TL.
