Red line oil-thank you

2008 Acura TL Type - S with 61,500 miles! Yesterday, I did my first 1X3 Transmission Drain and Fill and it turned into a 1x4. I ran my car for 10 minutes then took it around the block and it drained exactly 4 quarts of transmission fluid. I used some drive up Rhino ramps! I will say after filling it with 4 quarts of Red Line D4 ATF the drive is so much smoother! The magnetic drain bolt had a lot of metal shavings on it (pictures to follow) and the fluid was darker red. I drove about 50 hard miles and today I did another drain and fill (4 quarts again) and look forward to driving it tomorrow morning! The fluid is still very similar to the color of the first fluid change!

You will like the redline ATF. After the first change, you still had 2/3's of the original fluid in the tranny so it would naturally still be dark upon a second fluid change so that should be normal. I would be interested in knowing how the magnetic plug looked on that second fluid change. Was there much wear on it that second change?

I did only a 1x4 about 10k miles ago with the Type-F and the shifting is very good. I'll do another 1x4 in another 10k miles and have 2/3's Type-F in my cars tranny which be even better.

Did you replace your pressure sensors too? I'm doing mine during my next ATF change which will be about 60K total miles. That will be the 3rd change of ATF during the life of the car.

There was ZERO metal shavings on the plug on the 2nd drain and fill! I have not done the sensors yet, but I am not sure I have the ability to do it! I may do it, but am not to sure yet! I will do the next drain and refill in about 1,000 miles and check everything from there. Let me know how the sensors work for you!

^If you can change the ATF you have the capability of changing the sensors- very similar to doing spark plugs actually. Only difference is using some jack stands and pulling the drivers side front wheel.

Yeah I just got the TL less than 500 miles ago so I am slowly catching up on the maintenance! The cabin air filter was absolutely disgusting! I will be doing the brake fluid next followed by the sensors! Any idea how much for a brake fluid service?

^ not sure- I bleed the brakes myself. It's pretty easy if you have a helper. One thing you can do to speed the bleeding process is to take a Turkey Baster and suck out the old fluid from the reservoir first- then replace with new fluid before bleeding the brakes. Or if you don't get around to bleeding the brakes, simply replacing the reservoir fluid will go a long way in the process too. Think of that as as similar to doing a 1x3 ATF fill while a bleed is like a 3x3 fill since you get all the old fluid out.

I thought I would show some before .vs. after photos of my car's drain plug and resulting swipe. The top row of photos were taken at 38k with initial fills being Honda Z1. The bottom row photos show the results of 3 qts of Redline Type-F added from the 38k 1x3 refill. My car now has effectively a 2x3 of Redline Type-F now so I look forward to seeing even less wear next time.

Notice the wear is reduced and is lighter. The top photo was 2nd ATF change and bottom photo was 3rd ATF change. I didn't think of taking photos my first change at 20k.

How many miles after 38k are the second set of pictures? If its only a few thousand, then of course there will be less built up on the magnet.

Not dissing redline. I have used it, and I like it

The second photos were taken at 54K and 2 years after the first set of photos.
