Real T-Belt interval specs?
At work a few days ago we had a 06 honda odyssey with 58k that needed a timing belt. For anyone that doesn't know it has the 3.5 engine, Im guessing the same one as the TL-S type? I found it very strange that at 60k a belt is due. I currently own a maxima which is chain driven. Another thing that caught my eye when the plastic trim covers came off to expose the belt, the belt itself is very small. A bit bigger than your regular drive belts. Usually honda timing belts are nice and thick. The 3.5 belt was very thin and also had hairline cracks. Kinda blew my mind. A lot of people can sit here and fight about my next statement but I think its true. Anyway that statement is honda says t-belts are due at 100k or 6 years? could be wrong about the year part. Thats what honda says. Now if you ask your dealer the same question about timing belt intercal they will tell you 60k. I know you can go to 120k without replacing the belt but I know for a fact that the specs on the belt arent accurate.
Someone let me know with real information.
What is the real spec on the 3.2 engines?
Is the 3.5 engine which is in the odyssey in the TL-S?

It's 105,000 miles. It used to be 90,000 on the 1G and maybe some 2G TL's but they found they were lasting longer so they made it 105,000.
The timing belt is just like any other part in the car, meaning some fail way before they are due and some last forever, so that was unusual to have one fail at 58K.
If you get that many miles and are worried about it you could do it at 90,000, when you also should do the water pump.

Yeah the water pump is given. No reason you should not replace it when doing the belt, unless you like spending the money to redo the entire job again. Thanks for that info. I'm still shocked about the 3.5 odyssey engine.
