Ran a 350Z Nismo
Couple buddies of mine had been wanting me to run the Acura against another friend's Nismo Z for a while now, so we decided to take a quick trip down to Mexico around 1am.
Did 3 rolls; 40, 60, & technically a 50. In the back of my head, I was pretty sure the Z would take me in the top end, and it did, but not until I hit 4th.
In reality, the 40 roll was amazingly close all the way to probably around 100. The top of 3rd pulled pretty well, but once we both shifted into 4th, he had it from there. Every time one of us shifted, the other would slowly inch a fender out until the next gear change.
The 60 roll wasn't close. I started in 3rd b/c the car wouldn't downshift into 2nd at 60mph, so even though he shifted at one point & I started to pull back at the top of 3rd, my shift into 4th gave him a clear win. 50 roll though, I was finally able to start in 2nd which apparently gave me a huge advantage. I jumped out & held it again all the way til' 4th. From there on, we were surprisingly pretty close. But once he got into 5th, he started a nice pull on me & at that point, I was already at the speed governor, so it was a done deal for me.
Cliffs: Close races, I lost all 3.
I will say I have no shame in losing. Neck and neck are the best runs rather than throwing bus lengths on someone. I expected to lose, but I give the TL props for not giving the Z such an easy win; she fought all the way til' the dreaded 4th gear.
Now we'll have to see how I fair against a G35 Coupe with a Z intake & exhaust.

Nice runs. I'm assuming you are 5AT given you said the car wouldn't downshifted to 2nd @60mph. What are your mods?
I can imagine him pulling you pretty hard once you hit 4th gear being that it is a very long gear for the 5AT TL. If you are anything less than fully bolted I would have to say you hung that close because of driver error in the 350. Especially since they have aggressive gearing, especially in 3rd and 4th. But nonetheless, glad it was so close! I'm sure the Z driver was shocked.

Yes, I'm almost fully bolt on; J-Pipe, 3rd cat delete, exhaust, & intake. His shifts could've been a bit smoother as well, but he was surprised the TL ran how it did.
I've considered some PCDs or the new hi-flow cats to give me a better run, but I don't think it would excuse the long 4th gear.

OP don't get me wrong thinking I'm putting your car down when I say this, because I'm not. But I still think a properly driven Nismo 350z should be pulling on you in each gear. I wouldn't say he'd be putting buses on you, but from a 3rd gear roll at 60, I'd assume by the time you'd reach 110 he would be at least 2-3 cars ahead. But then again, I could be overrating the Nismo and underestimating your car.

I had a similar run against my buddys dads nismo 350, From a mid-1st gear roll I beat him, not by much until I hit 4th (about 105mph)
I have a fully bolted 2G TL-S, with my interior gutted and shitty tires i've run 14 flats all day with ONE 13.998, all trapping between 99-100.5.

With the PCDs you would probably pull on him in 3rd gear (all things being equal considering the fact that now you said it's pretty even).

He also wasn't making completely smooth shifts, but he hasn't raced before, so there's room for improvement.

I'll race u, if u ever in Boston........
also quik note I ran a modded G35 auto cupe, chipped, intake, exhaust and from a 50roll to bout 120mph, I easily waled away from him no problem. Not even close
that same day there was another G35 with exhaust also auto i assume if not then it would be pretty bad, he had couple gauges on his A-pillar and intake...was behind him whrn he punched it and then I punched at bout 50mph also and easily passed him and kept pulling til about 130mph where i must of had like at least 3 bus length on him......
very curious to see how I would fair with a G35 stick shift, espicially now with my full RV6 exhaust

Nice Rick. Me and my brother (g35--cai,hfc,plenum spacer, catback, 6mt) are dead even every single time. But that's only from a dig. I think it partially has to do with his inexperience in shifting though.

A properly driven stock 6MT G35 should pull 3-4 cars on an 5AT TL, not to mention modded. But if you are modded, then my bad. He should still pull you though

How inexperienced is he? He should be putting buslengths on you (I don't see any mods in your sig). I ended up about 1/2 car ahead of a revup 6MT G35 with TP/E and I'm a fully bolted 6MT, and shift the hell out of my car. Although he was pretty shady about his mods, considering he said he had a Motordyne exhaust and he clearly had a single 3in with a dummy muffler.

We may doing another one soon, 3-wide.
A guy I ran w/ a SR20 swapped 240 wants to run him, & I may opt to go 3-wide. I've already beaten the 240 from a 50 roll which resulted in 2 car lengths, so his only shot at the Z is a 30 roll where his turbo can kick in. Once he gets near 100Mph, the Z & I will pull like nothing.

wow i have a 350z 6mt and i killed my tl everytime, and my tl has some decent mods. all these stories of tls and tl-s beating those z's seem a bit wierd. im nt saying anybody is lying but maybe those drivers dont know what they r doing. having both cars i can safly say the Z is much more powerful even without mods. i havent raced my car with a my new mods on my Z but aug 13th im going to autoclub speedway in fontana and see what it can do in the 1/4 mile.

i have raced a stock tl-s when i was stock on my Z, my buddy has an 08 but it is an auto. i took him out no problem and we did a couple runs, and also i must say that this was about 5 days after i got my Z, so i was not good at launching my car since it was the first manual i have ever owned and a Z is not a friendly tranny to learn how to drive stick. anyways i must agree that tl-s 6mt is faster but it wasnt even close. a tl-s is fast but it does not compare to a 6mt Z...

hard to imagine a 370z losing to a tl-s. i've sat in one before and it just feels like it pulls much harder than the tl-s. maybe the 6mt tl-s with mods is faster than i think, i can only speak on behalf of the 5at tl-s

In short, we want to do runs for each person, but he only wants to do his own races where he'll have the advantage b/c his POS can't go past 75.

You're kidding me...STOCK?! That's unfair...! My little Infiniti may or may not hit low 13's, if not 13 flat, with the mods that I have on currently. Mainly because of my 4.083 gearing.
