Quick Fix!

Discovered the cruise control accel/decel switch is broken on my wife's 2005 TL. The accel (top) portion of the switch no longer "clicks"....The botton side of the switch is still OK!

Can the switch be replaced without fear of having the air bag blow up in your face?

the only way to get it out is to take the airbag off. its really not that hard as long as you take your time and have patience. the hardest part is getting the two bolts that hold the airbag to the steering wheel. we took two airbags off last week when changing the bulbs for the buttons on the steering wheel and it was no problem, a little scary because ive heard the stories of airbags blowing but if you take your time and as soon as the airbag is off you place it aside, you have no problem.

Disconnect the neg. side of the battery, let it sit for a few minutes. then you dont have to worry about the airbag discharging

buy extra air bag bolts.. you are supposed to replace them whenever you remove them.. I had to wait a few days because I didnt have extra bolts and I stripped the left one.. (this has happened to ALOT of people who removed their air bag.. do a search)

You'll need a Torx T30 bit. The screws have a loctite type substance on them that makes them tough to get out. Be sure you seat the Torx bit squarely and securely in the head of the screw before start to back it out.

There is a DIY with service manual scans somewhere in the Garage, I think under light/led replacement.
