Questions about Oil and Tranny Fluid Change

Im hoping to do mine 2mrw , I was looking through the 3G Garage since I dont have a repair manual and saw that I need to get a CRUSH WASHER for the oil filter, is the only place to get this at the dealer or can I get it at like a autozone or kragen?

For the tranny fluid change, I read that the fluid of choice is the GM SyncroMesh Friction Modified, where is the best place to get it?

Lastly, Should the Drain and Refill washers be replaced at every fluid swap and are those also dealer only items?

The washers are cheap (sometimes, the parts people just give them to you). Might as well use a new one every time (I do).

Be sure to torque those drain bolts. Use 29 ft/lbs, or 360 in/lbs, for the crankcase.

I bought my GM SFM fluid at a Chevy dealer. The parts guy didn't even know the stuff existed.

So washers ARE dealer only items? The nearest Acura dealer is like 20 min away from me

How much did you pay for your fluid, 3qts right?

Here's some links that I have bookmarked in my favorites. They've helped me; maybe you'll be able to use them too...

I imagine you could probably buy the washers at some place like Home Depot, but the dealer is the best bet. And 20 miles gives you a nice TL moment.

As I recall, the GM SFM stuff is around $12 a quart. You'll need to get three quarts.. refill takes 2.3 quarts.

The crush washer is for the drain bolt(s), not the oil filter. You can also get these washers at an auto store such as Auto Zone for a modest cost. (ie. they are cheap)

Don't drive 20 miles to get one. I reused mine on my last change and it's fine. Just make sure the bolt, washer, and mating surface of the drain pan are all clean and torgue it to 29 lbs, and you'll be OK.

Next time you're at the dealer you can buy a half-dozen of each size washer. For now, don't worry about it. They reuse fine.
