Questions about maintenance on 06TL, new owner

Hi...

I just bought a used 2006 TL, with 21000 miles on it.
So far, I only know that I am supposed to bring the car in for service, when the maintenance minder tells me so.
I read the manual, and it gives me a general idea.

Questions:
1. How much do those scheduled maintenance lists cost normally? I read in the forum that a B2 service, which is like a 30K mile service will cost $600. How about other regular maintenance?

2. My dealer reccomended me to put Xzilon to protect the paint. Has anybody seen this product actually helpful for paint / color protection?

Sorry guys, I am new to TL, and generally know nothing much about car maintenance, I hope you will give me some good inputs.

Hello, Handy, and welcome!

Regarding the questions:

1) Each dealership's service charges are a little bit different. $600 Seems way overpriced for B2 service.

2) I would say DEFINITELY DO NOT do this. It is only a ploy to make money, and not worth it at all.

Hope this helps!

I have an 06 TL also - good car. I'd recommend this to give you a good starting baseline:

Oil change (use synthetic 5-20 year round or as an option 5-30 in warm months, I'd suggest Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Platinum).
Oil filter change (use Mobil 1 or K&N filter - these are synthetic fiber elements vs. traditional paper) Optionally you can use the factory oil filter from a Honda S2000 sports car.
Triple change your tranmission fluid - NO FLUSH. Only use Honda or Acura fluid (it's a special blend and Honda transmissions are picky about fluid).
Change air filter - stock Acura filter is fine or use a NAPA Gold (never put in a K&N or a reusable cleanable style gauze air filter).
Rotate your tires and use a torque wrench on the lug nuts - this minimizes possibility of warpage of your brake rotors.
Always use premium gas as using lower grades causes lowered fuel economy and lower HP (the engine computer will "dial back" to protect itself.
Make sure you have your tires properly inflated (the TPMS is pretty accurate)

Talk to your dealer about getting access to Acura Owner Net. It's a free service from Acura. You can log all your maintenance there and tons of info is available. Put in your cars serial number and all its factory data is there. On-line owners manual, recall notices, service bulletins, etc. are listed here.

Acuras will last a long time with a little bit of "proper" maintenance. A good source of maintenance information is bitog.com (Bob is the Oil Guy). Scientic data vs the typical free internet opinions abounds here.

Hi all,

Thanks for your generous information. I will probably bring my car to a dealer for any maintenance, though. Unless, anybody know a reliable non dealer acura specialist in the greater Los Angeles area.

I feel like a dealer knows best, even though their price is pretty steep usually.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was "rushing" when I bought this 06 Acura, and don't think that I got a good deal.

KBB Price: $30,700 (no navigation)
Price I bought: $28,700 (certified pre-owned, mileage: 21400)
Warranty 7-Year: $2,300
Lo-Jack: $1,195
Xzilon paint protection: $995

I bargained only for the interest rate (4.9% for a used car is pretty cheap, my savings rate is higher than this, so I don't see a reason to pay off the car just yet)

I could have bargained for more if I had a more perfect credit.

I believe you could go as low as $27,500 for this car.

Anybody think I got ripped off? I think so.

Welcome to the forums and congrats on the "new" ride.

Don't worry about whether or not you got a good deal- imho. The deal is done and there is no going back in time. As long as your happy w/ the ride and you paid a price that your comfortable with ( along w/ the interest rate) then that is all that matters.

is this an automatic or manual tl?

and 600 is way overpriced and its not like a 30k.

dont do the paint protection.

i swear by mobil1 and oem honda filters. or mobil 1 filters.

keep your tires rotated and get an alignment around 30k..

the 2005 tl's have a rear toe amendment to set the rear toe to 0deg

thats why u guys have increased tire wire on the rear's, this amendment changes that.

i somewhat agree on the triple change the trans fluid, that is if its an atuto.

manual is ok at the required service interval..
