Question re: back side of base Aspec rear lip
Got kind of an uncommon question for you DIY installers and anyone else familiar with the part. I'm contemplating my rear bumper mod and waffling between the Type-S aspec lip (07-08) and the 04-06 base aspec lip with some modification. The former would be more money and/or a lot of hacking, but the latter might save me some coin and require less MacGuyvering.
So on to the question: what does the inside face of the 04-06 base aspec lip, particularly behind this 'shelf' or bumpout look like?
Is it hollow, i.e. molded to follow the outer skin or solid and are there any fasteners or anything in this area?
I've come to the conclusion that this is what I think makes the early base lip pale in comparison to the TL-S aspec lip. Do not want that little shelf. What I'm considering is cutting that out and putting black mesh against a black solid face to go with my already-mesh front bumper. I don't think I want to cut through the rear bumper to look totally like the TL-S. May also work in some subtle diffusing fins* as well.
*Because race car.
Thanks for your insight.
