One of my friends gave me two leds for the license plate, so i couldnt tell you which ones they are butt they were a little big and i was afraid they wouldnt fit.

taking the housing off was no problem. Make sure you pay attention on how you remove it. I didn't and it took me a while to figure out how to put it back in place.
it's not hard but you do have to use your brain to figure out the puzzle.

Not hard.

Go here: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/3g-tl-garage-faq-3g-tl-newbies-553554/

Hit CTRL-F and put "license" in the pop up text search box. Voila. Find the DIY to replace the lights.

Really easy to do, just need to pop off the liner in the trunk and swap the bulbs, but my LED bulbs burned out after 6 months, some ppl say its the slamming of the trunks. a few ppl other than me have had this issue.

i would recommend doing a Cathode tube lights..the light that they emit so sooo much brighter..I did it to my TL, its relatively easy, i took my time and it took me an hour tops to take everything apart and put everything back, cause the the trunk and the reverse lights has to all come out..but deff worth it..

I actually had LED's on mine and they lasted at least a year.

Here's the DIY for the Cathode light:

That is the same DIY i used to put in mine...if you decided to go this route I DEFF recommend to put in the reflector light behind the cathode tube..

It allows 100% the light to be shine down on the license plate instead of losing 50% of the light in to the trunk..

I did it and let me tell you, the light shines up the ground as well!

I would say "NO". Reason is, you use the OEM harness and are just replacing the bulbs. So, no room for tape. Plus the LED's face straight down, shining the light downward. Again, no need for reflective tape. When installing the Cathode tube, everything is removed and replaced with the tube. Since the tube emites light in all directions, the tape is used above it to reflect the light down. Hope this helps.

I wish I would have known about cathode lights rather than LEDs. I switched out EVERY light in my AMG with LEDs.
My interior lights:

(maps, vanity, domes, under dash, doors)

My citylights:

My tag lights:

Even my front and rear blinkers and brake lights are all LEDs. Everything is hyper white but they have a blue tint to them. I hate the amber color blinkers and stuff. Here's a pic of the bulbs for my brake lights and the smaller ones are the tag lights.

Holy crap, that thing was a pain the arse. Why did they make the housing for the bulb so damn hard to remove? Not only that, the bulb itself was difficult to take out too. In the process I broke the gray housing.

I decided to leave the clips for the liner off. I bought a cold cathode tube and I'm just waiting for the 3M wire taps to arrive. I'll install the CCFL when the LEDs eventually burn out. I can't wait till the sun goes down so I can see the LEDs in action.
