Price check: low-miles 05 TL MT6

Hi all -- newbie here!

Looking to pick up a 3G TL and I'm amazed at what a deal they are on the used car market these days. Lots to be had between $11-15k even.

Anyway, I'm hoping for a MT6, which seem to be rarer and more expensive. I found a black/black 2005 single owner MT6 w/o nav which I'm going to look at tomorrow. Amazingly it has only 12,500 miles or so. Owner is selling because he can no longer afford the payments. He's asking $19,500.

I've seen lots of <$16k cars listed with under 50k miles around here, but all 5ATs. Heck, CPO'ed they're under $18k.

What do y'all think of his asking price? What would be a non-insulting offer assuming everything looks okay?

Thanks!

Even at that low miles price seems high to me. I have seen the TL-S's going for around that price.

Lots of 05 TLs between $11-15k? Where are you finding that? Maybe I've been looking in the wrong places.

As for the deal you have right now, an 05 for $19.5k without nav is pretty steep, even with the low mileage. If the seller is firm, I would consider looking elsewhere.

Check the various SoCal Craigslists, e.g. here

some hi miles or salvaged, but several are not.

I suspected he was asking too much. Any rec's on a good counter? My guess is he's asking for the amt he has remaining on the loan.

Actually I check craigslist maybe 3 times a day. I have no life.

As for the deal you have now, I wouldn't waste time, unless you MUST have that low of a mileage TL, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. Even if you were able to get him to lower, say $1.5k, $18,000 for a non-navi TL isn't something I would do.

If you can wait, that's what I'd suggest. There's a lot of TLs out on the road in SoCal, there's bound to be one for you. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! I think it's worth checking out just so that I can test drive a good MT6. Most of them seem to be far away. I'll let him know what I think about the price and see what happens. I'm willing to wait!

Wow that's some low millage! If you are set on this car then start bargaining to bring the price down. I would see if maybe he could knock off another ~$1500.

Well I checked it out -- really nice ride and the MT is fantastic; among the best I've used. So I'm sold on the MT and the car itself is great. I do think he's asking too much, and I'd love to have the nav. He just listed it and neither of us is in a hurry so I'll let it settle for a while and see how the price comes down. I was thinking about the TSX before this but I really like the V6!

The TL gets around 28-30 mpg on the highway which is not much worse than the TSX. If you can afford a TL no way I would take a TSX over it.
