possible for my budget?

Ok I'm looking fora new car and my dad has a 2g tls and I love it, so I'm really wanting a 3g. But I only have 10k. Is it even worth lookin for one with under a hundre thousand miles if I only have ten thousand?

You'll need to either save more or have payments. Back when I was your age, I invested my $ in Gold and made a bundle and paid cash for my first car- I tripled my money! You have enough dough saved to do the same thing if you're ok with a little risk. Go to money/finance and see what I have been doing with Silver/Gold.

Whether a TL is worth it or not, only you can answer that question. For a 17 yr old, a 3G TL is a pretty nice car to have presumably for a first car. You might also like an RSX or TSX if you want an Acura.

No different than the stock market, it's just like gambling. If you purchased the gold in the early 80's, you'd be waiting 28 years to break even. Unless you can afford to take a loss, or wait for long term investments, don't bother with the get rich quick schemes.

As far as an 3G for under 10 grand, it would either be a very high mileage car, or one that has had a salvage title. Don't make the move until you can afford to. Just keep in mind, the car is probably the worst investment anyone can make, as it will never go up in value, at least not the TL. Buy a new one for 40 grand and you'll see it drop 25 grand in 5-6 years, and maintenance isn't cheap.

You can't get a 3G TL for 10k unless there is something wrong with it.

Save up more and wait a while. In any case it's not a good idea to use up every last cent you have on a car because then you have no cushion in case of unexpected repairs.

It's actually not like gambling at all, but this is an entirely different topic. Gambling is when you know you're likely to lose, but hope to win (lottery, vegas, etc). Investing is when you think you're going to win, but hedge in case you lose. Completely opposite scenarios. With the current monetary policy in place, there is high probability that gold and particularly silver are going higher.

The OP is just 17 yrs old, so in two years time he probably could buy a nice TL in cash by saving and maybe considering the silver idea, just not now. He could probably use his parents car in the mean time and wouldn't need his own car until college. It comes down to satisfaction now .vs. later. I'll keep any additional discussion in the proper forum: Money & Investing.

Find a 12-14k TL, put a 8k down payment, use the 2k as payments for your 3 year lease, than work to pay off the rest. Not only will you learn responsibility, but your credit will get better.

I'll one up that. Put a 3-4K downpayment, get the rest on payments, deposit remaining money into secure account (one you won't touch).

At a decent loan rate (preferably under 5%) your money will essentially be stale, with some loss. Paying the car flat out your money will lose value much quicker in my opinion. Not only do you fight against the inflation, you will build a credit history (which is nothing spectacular in itself but its good to have). On the flip side you will pay interest. Plus it gives you a sense of "stability" - knowing you have thousands in the bank puts things in a slightly different perspective.

But if anything I recommend you get a decent job first (somewhere you can see yourself working for more than 1 year). I can count on one hand the # of times I have driven my TL since I purchased it a month back. Like the car a lot but between mods, maintenance, misfortunes, and general lack of time it is being regulated to a weekend vehicle.

How about a TSX? You could definitely find one for that price.

at 17 you oughta be looking for something sportier anyway. And get a 2 seater so you don't always have to be the designated driver when you get to college

ford tarsus's are always an ideal car for college kids, they are a bitch to kill. and cheap to fix. and who cares if your car gets egged. save the money till after college. dont start the endless college debt cycle.

just get it like I got mine at 18 years old. The Acura dealership by me got robbed a week before I was looking for a new car since my WRX broke for the final time of my liking. I went there with two of my friends and they thought wow young kids and a car that "matched" what looked to be the car that robbed the place. Meanwhile my friend drove his silver WRX with about 30k work into it and looked nice. Long story short, they came over to me asked if I wanted to test drive it, so I said sure and handed him my license, willingly. Then cops were called and they put my friend in cuffs while me and my friend were being questioned. I called my mom in fury and she drove down there raised hell and I got my new 3g a-spec nav, 6mt, anthracite TL for a ridiculously low price, Under 30k after taxes and it was like 42 after taxes. Im a big hearted person and didnt want to sue or get anyone in trouble, but I was looking for a new car and wanted a good deal :=). BTW the car that robbed the place was a camry....looks nothing like a WRX. Some people just want to be heros.

BTW - If this is breaking your bank account dont spend it all becuase youll need money for new tires eventually, gas and youll wanna upgrade it. Leave some room for leverage, never go in debt or get a credit card its a bad idea.
