Porsche Carrera
Reader beware: Believe it or not!!
During the hot and humid summer days, my car feels bone stock. Despite my mods, it feels like I'm towing a small family. However, once the brisk late night comes around, it's a different story.
Tonight I have the tale of a black Carrera, 6 speed. Not the S, just plain Carrera as far as I could tell. I didn't see a "4" or "S" anywhere.
He was in the R lane going faster than me and got behind me because of the car ahead of him. I saw the Porsche headlights in my rearview and sped up a little in 6th. Once there was a large enough gap to fit between me and the minivan to the R, he cut over and gave it some gas. I downshifted to 3rd and punched it so he would get the idea. I caught up to him and teased him with 1 short burst, and he bit almost immediately. From about a 70 roll we were off. Thru the top of 3rd we were dead even. Once I shifted into 4th (I heard him still revving in 3rd) he pulled slowly pulled 1 car. Once he shifted to 4th I gained back some distance and started creeping up. I then almost started walking him, clearly he must have let off the gas. I don't know at what point he let off and never will. I think he was rather shocked at how close I kept it, as was I.
I was ahead of him this time and was in 4th. He punched it once he got next to me (ugh he got the jump) and I downshifted into 3rd with him already 1.5 cars ahead and pulling. I got on it but he continued to pull obviously.
I was rather excited I kept right up with an $80K car in my bolt on Accord. Let me tell you, that 3.6L sounds awesome

The S is a good amount faster for sure.
I think it was like an 04-05.

Nice run! I was driving home from San Diego to Sacramento Friday night and kept up with an auto cayman(i think) base model up to about 140 in my lightly modded TL, My car is a dog off the line but i think it pulls nicely up top.

I know you mentioned "reader believe it or not" and I am not sure what to believe either. A car designed for somewhat speed with a little over 3000 curb weight and close to 350hp crank. I would love to hear the other side of the story =)

All I can say is this...I know for a fact that he was on it because I heard him revving it out. My car is rather loud and I heard his exhaust over mine (my window halfway down).
When I said I creeped on him once he shifted to 4th, I don't know if he let off or not. I would imagine so because I know I would not pull on a Carrera. I do know what's totally unbelievable and what's not.
I looked up the Dragtimes 1/4 mile and there are not many on there, but the 2000+ Carrera's run anywhere from 13.0-13.5 @106-108. Now the 108 trap is high for sure...but the 106 is manageable, especially on the street. I should trap somewhere in the 104s when my car is running right (as it was, clearly).
When I go to the track on a hot day like I will this summer, I don't expect to trap very high or run great times. But once I go back in say October, then I should see the times I expect. Unless @9am one Saturday it's 60 degrees and not humid

Nothing against you Sonnick, good run nonetheless but it's kinda hard for me to believe a car that has couple of hundred lbs heavier, less power, shorter gears (not sure what's the gear spec on the P but since you said you're in 4th and he still in 3rd), slower trap + being slowly pulled by 1 car. Assuming everything is perfect and he still on the pedal (otherwise you already passed him in the beginning), even when he go to 4th I still don't think you will be able to creep up. Even though 106 is managable but it's not standing at 106.

The only way I can see me creeping is if he wasn't flooring it in 4th. Unless possibly because I was in mid-4th and he was at the very bottom? So I crept up for 1-2 seconds then he would've started to pull? I'm not sure. But I do know he let off at some point just not sure when
Either way omg did it sound sick WOT

And wow, you're right they are light. I also read during the span of the 996 they changed engines from a 3.4L (300/258) to a 3.6L (320/273). I have no idea which one it was, but seems to be the 3.4L. With 300 to the crank, that would probably be somewhere around 250whp, accounting for RWD drivetrain loss being slightly more than FWD. This should help because I should be around 250+whp right now yayy.

It was probably and earlier model 996 with a tiptronic trans...the early model 996 with a tiptronic trans will run high 13's to low 14's. They are quite heavy with a tiptronic trans and are pigs on the top end...911's do well from a dig but are only so so from a roll. I can definitely believe you would stay with an early model 996...now if it would have been a 997 you would have gotten spanked easily...

When the M3 pulls in 3rd is how the Carrera was pulling on me when I shifted into 4th. When we shut down mid 4th for me he was ahead as much as the M3 just before he passes the blue sign (30 sec mark). That M3 sounds fucking SICK btw.

Haha Sonnick where do you find these races man?? It's a good month if I get 1 good race but other then that nothing lol
Sounds like you had a nice run with the Porsche! I don't doubt what happened at all, anything goes on the street. Obviously the Carrera was pulling on you but still a nice run. Like you said, feels good to at least keep up with a real sports car!
