Angry Please Help. Dealership cant seem to do anything for me

2005 6MT, non-aspec, stock wheels currently on the car. After the car sits for a bit (1 or more hours) in the cold weather here in the midwest, every time I turn from a stop, more so with right turns, there is a noise. It sounds like something is popping out of place again and again. Definitely coming from the suspension because it only happens during load/unload situations, like accelerating from a stop. If I just turn while driving, it's not there.

I took 3 different techs for rides, and they heard exactly what I am describing, checked all suspension components, nothing to be found. Everything is tight and where it is supposed to be.

I did have another noise that happened with load/unload and it ended up being the battery cover hitting the relocated IAT sensor on my intake, but I cut away a bit of the cover and that noise went away. Now I have this one only when it is cold. If I drive the car for more than a half hour, the noise begins to slowly decrease and get quieter, same applies to warmer weather. Earlier in the week, it was not there. Then it gets cold, comes back, warm, goes away. It's driving me nuts and I'm getting fed up with the dealership, and Im sure they are fed up with me as well. There are no other dealerships within a 75 mile radius, so going somewhere else is out of the question.

OK, Mods, I know this is not the proper place, but I just want this here to get some exposure for a bit.

Thanks in advance,
John

does this only occur when turning? do you let the engine reach mid-range temp before driving? I've never had this happen to ME, but my sister's Navigator makes a wierd noise when turning to the left... so if u ever find out wat it is let me kno... good luck

yeah, it only happens while turning, more right than left, and the clicks get faster as I accelerate.

Possible a bad CV or axle? I'm stumped.....anyone, please!

Hmm, I doubt this is it, but I thought I was going crazy when I heard a banging sound from my '04 TL when in fact, I just needed to refill the windshield washer fluid reservoir. I finally suspected that a float ball or something was hitting the side walls of the reservoir. Once I filled it up, the sound went away.

What was strange was that I only heard it when I made right turns. And, it only made sounds when I took turns a little more spirited.

Good luck and please let us know if you find out something.

Thanks, Bob....very strange problem. The only thing I can think of is as I said above, a bad axle or CV joint, possible just needs some grease, or a loose axle nut. Happened on my S2000, but not as loud, and not as picky about cold or warm.

nope, they even checked the brakes, lubed everything, and just now looking at the repair orders, they already checked the specs on the axle nuts, and all suspension bolts.

Have they checked to see if you have a bad wheel bearing? I had a very similar sound from my front wheel of my 2002 Maxima years ago.

Are you sure your aftermarket wheels clear the brakes?

aftermarkets are not on the car right now and yes, they clear the brakes by more than the stock wheels do. Noise started with the stock wheels on, once the weather got cold.

I will mention the wheel bearing next time I am in there which will be soon for an oil change.

Definitely sounds like a bad CV joint. Surprised the dealer could not figure that one.

Dude, I have the same problem but I hear it when I turn both ways and I also started hearing it the summer

I took it to the dealer and told them what I was hearing a unusual sound comming when I turn but they couldnt hear it and they didnt do anything about it.

I will definetly bring it to there attention when I go for another oil change and hopefully they will fix it

I would doubt its a bad CV joint/axle joint - if its an actual "clicking" noise. When a CV joint is going bad it normally doesn't click yet more of a dull knocking/rattling noise at first. I cant imagine a CV joint already being bad on a 2005...? When it happens are you maxed on the steering as in at the stops? Or just any amount of turn etc.?

Keep us posted

any amount of turn. And again, my car just sat outside in 19* weather for about 3 hours and it was horrible when I first started driving, but after about 5 or 10 miles, it starts to get quieter.....thats the wierd thing and the reason I'm not sure about the CV Joint either.

I'm so confused and extremely irritated. I just dont understand what it is.

Hah, I had my car make a swirling noise that progressively got louder, turned out to be the brakes, needed to be changed. Maybe you should have someone drive your car in a nice open parking lot, then stand outside your car and walk with it to listen for the noise.

yeah, it's not a swirling noise, and I can hear it with the windows open or closed....really annoying. I'll have to try that too.

OK,
Don't perform this if you don't have the correct equipment etc., but I would jack the front of the car up and secure it on jack-stands - parking brake set etc.. Have someone start the car and place in drive then turn the steering etc.. The whole time I would be under/near each side front suspension/CV joints. You may have to leave it sit this way overnight to ensure its cold-soaked. I would hope this would help narrow down the issue etc..

Not that you should be responsible for the diagnostic process,,, but that's what I would do being a veteran mechanic..

Damn poor dealership assistance!!

Jonny-2k,.... it doe's sound like a cv-joint problem, but I'd have to hear it for myself!.....try driving slow in a straight line and jerk the steering to left and right with short quick tug's/ jerk's !....and if you hear it , it might be the cv joint!....check both front wheel hub's and make sure they are tight also, and all brake caliper mounting bolt's/ pad's.....one of these got loose( wheel hub) on my ITR,and was making that clunking noise, tightened and it was fixed!...and as someone else also mentioned the wheel bearing's if theye'r not sealed, and locking bolt's tight.....I know it's irritating...I hope you find the problem and good luck!

Sounds like a strut. I had the same problems in my 2003 Marauder. Almost like

a loud click noise?

yeah, and only when it's cold.

KJSmitty, I was thinking of doing just that or at least having the dealership put it up on a rack after it sat outside for an hour or two. I dont know, it's getting irritating and I can even hear it over the radio if it is below about 15 for the volume.

I dont know, I'll have to start getting on their case next time I take it in. I'll just get an RL for a loaner and tell them to keep the car as long as they need. Or maybe an RDX?!?!

Well, the car was in for an oil change and some other minor stuff, they ended up replacing my entire rack & pinion because my steering would bind up occasionally, and he said he was going to just go ahead and replace the axles since they could not duplicate the sound, but then when he went to replace them, the axle nuts were loose, so he tightened them and said it was not making noise any more.

Well, that was a load of crap. It's still there, loud as ever, now it sounds like its coming from the front AND the back! I'm so confused and I dont want to keep bugging the dealership about it becasue I feel bad but I want it fixed at the same time.

UGh! Just needed to rant.

Did they charge you to fix it? Don't feel bad. They're job is to maintain our vehicles and conform them to meet Acura's high standards. If you feel they did not finish the job, take it back. I took mine back 3 times for a window problem and the manager said "back again?!" I said, yep, and I'll be back 'til it's fixed. Let's just say I have nother appointment in January.

I agree!! No way in hell should you feel bad! Sounds like it's not something simple though if they did all of that and it's still not fixed! Bug them so much that they go all out to fix it so you will leave them alone! Plus, they proly don't want the bad review on the survey either if they did all of that. So keep pressing! Besides, you are supposed to get what you paid for right? A well-oiled-machine!

I tried to PM you Johnny about another question. But your box is full.

No, there was no charge, it's still under warranty, but it's been in at least 4 times already. Maybe I'll just offer them $5K plus my car for a new type-S....hahaha....I wish!

Box cleared!

Such a puzzling problem... Here's my story and my advice:

When my TL had about 40k on it in 2005 (I have an 02), the Bose system started sounding fuzzy. There was a hint of distortion from all the speakers no matter what I was listening to, CD, radio, whatever. I took it to the dealer time and time again, probably 5 times - they always said they did not hear it. They blamed it on my cell phone but it did it even when my phone was not in the car. Finally, I called Acura Client Services and explained how many times I'd had to take my car back for this problem and how I still had no resolution. They had a district rep. show up to meet me at the dealer soon after. He listened to the stereo and said "I'm not satisified with how that sounds" and ordered speaker replacements all around. I picked the car up and the problem was still there, so I took the car back again. This time they replaced the entire system, the head-unit, the amp, the equalizer - everything. And the problem was solved.

So my advice to you is to call Acura Client Services at 1-800-382-2238 and explain your situation to them and how many times you've taken your car back for it. When they call the dealer, it usually puts more of a sense of urgency and lights a fire under their asses.

I will probably do that if they cant fix it this week. I'm gonna call tomorrow and have them come to my house with a tech so the car is as cold as can be, then I will drive him back to the dealership (only about 5 miles) so he can hear the worst of it.

The problem is, as the car warms up from driving or sitting in their shop while they puts around, the sound diminishes.
