Hey cucaracha, sorry to hear this. I hate when this happens. Seriously. Sometimes it happens to me when I'm stopped at the light and the car in front of me turns on his washer fluid.

But, what can we do?

I make a point of spraying my windshield-washers, and thus blasting the guy behind me, whenever someone tailgates me (which, given the rudeness of most DC-area drivers, isn't uncommon, even if you're going 15 mph above the speed limit in the slow lane). It almost always startles them into backing off. If someone doesn't like it, he can back the fuck off and follow at a proper distance.

I don't understand the subject line of this thread. "ur windshield when ur car is moving"? What do the ancient Sumerians have to do with this? I didn't think people in the city of Ur drove cars.

THAT'S WHAT I DO TO TAILGATERS!

Especially the ones who follow so close you can't even see their headlights.

Oh man...cucaracha wasnt telling drivers to drive blind behind their salt caked windscreens.....he was just sayin that we should have some common courtesy for fellow drivers. Any responsible driver should wash his/her windshield before they leave their driveway or parking spot....he just said that it SUCKED when he washed his pride and joy and then almost immediately had it splashed in washer shit because another driver couldn't wait till the next stop in traffic to wash his/her windshield. WE HAVE ALL BEEN THERE AND SAID F&$K!!!! REALLY LOUD!!!- not because the guy in front of us was trying to drive safely or clear his/her view, but because it's a piss off!!! - similar to washing your car, and then almost immediately having a salter pass you on the highway, pelting your car with salt chunks...F*&#K!!! The salter is making the road safer....but does that really matter to you at that moment???When he dings your car with salt??Is that what you're thinking about??

So what happens on a hot summer night, when bugs are out in full effect? Should people pull over on the side of the highway every five minutes to clean their windshield?

Use some common sense. It's washer fluid that may get on your car, not brake fluid. If you can't deal with it, consider public transportation.

You should lead by example and dump your washer reservoir. Out of all the things that can pelt my car on the roads/highway, washer fluid ranks pretty fucking low on my list of things to freak out about.

Three car lengths is fine if you're doing 30mph but at freeways speeds even a one second following distance will be five cars plus. You could always drive faster to avoid being behind people with dirty windshields. lol

The one problem with following at the "proper" distance on the Interstate, at least here in the DC area, is that the "proper" distance means leaving so much space that other people will invariably cut into that space.

If you think about it all of you who are spraying people for following too close what are you accomplishing?! "Oh looky here, this dumbass is on my ass. I think I'll spray my washer fluid to get him off my ass. Hmm yea that'll work just great"<--end brain fart!!

You guys act like spraying the washer fluid on someone is like hitting them with some sort of acid!! All you're doing if you think of it is wasting money cause you'll need to keep refilling just to spray people. And by the way since you're spraying people over your own car whose the dumbass driving around with blue or orange streaks dripping down the car huh? Get over it already we're in the middle of winter where the roads will constantly be wet to some degree and the person in front of you will kick up the water onto your car which will make you need to clean the windshield. what you expect everyone to pull over just to clean the glass. If you want to drive your car right after you washed it then expect it to get dirty fast otherwise go buy a cover and cut the windows and lights out and drive it like that or just take the damn bus.

And yes it is annoying to have the car get dirty right after cleaning it but life goes on people!!!

I do the same thing... it's less dangerous than slamming on brakes and most people don't see it as an aggressive move. But it sure makes them back off.

but did you ever think about that person slamming on their brakes because they're caught off guard by something hitting their windows then into turn getting hit in the rear themselves?! I mean come on we all know how old people are when they drive they'll hit the brakes for any little thing then there's also the nervous drivers who don't realize what they are doing til it's too late. But I guess whatever floats your boat have fun with your weapon of mass destruction
