Picking up my new 2006 TL tomorrow- Brake Dust Question

How is the brake dust on the 2006 TL's, I am returning a 2003 G35 sedan. The brake dust was terrible with the G. Will I be spending my weekends cleaning the rims?

Please let me know how you guys are doing.

I dont have a problem with break dust on my 05 TL. Funny you mention the break dust on the G35, my bro in law was rotating his tire on his G35 in my garage and i also notice..a dark film of brake dust on it.

If you got the MT, your front wheels will look gray in no time.

You can always swap out the pads with aftermarket, though.

Anyway, welcome to the forum

Brake dust is not an issue with the automatic TL but is very much so with the manual since it has Brembo brakes which come with performance pads.

As ndx2 said, you can replace the stock pads with some after-market units and significantly reduce the amount of brake dust. I have an '04 manual and just this year, I installed Rotex Kevlar Gold pads in the front brakes and dust has dropped, I estimate, between 80 to 90%.

I have a MT and the Brembo pads get dusty quick. But it'll stop on a dime. I've had it for a month and I clean the front wheels twice a Week! But I don't mind it a bit.

I have a 6-speed and the brembo pads create lots and lots of dust, within a few days your rims will be gray, but on a good note, they work great!!

I haven't noticed a brake dust problem on my 5AT at all. What I have done to combat this on past cars I've owned with painted [hence clear coated] rims it to wax / polish them with whatever I am using on the paint of the car. On the TL I've got a few coats of Zaino on the rims and besides shining like a mofo it helps repel brake dust .

I have an 06 AT and with stock rims no problem .. when I changed to the ones I have now I get a fair amount .. FYI a great wheel protectant is the liquid NuFinish.. its a polymer and will deal with the heat on the wheels where a carnuba won't and its layerable .

The 03-04 G35 had issues with brake dust and 15k life of pads. I had a 04 and a 05 G35. Now a TL and the wheels only get dirty from road dirt. Congrats!

Thanks to evryone who posted a reply. It's nice to know I won't be spending my free time cleaning my rims. I am getting the AT stock rims.
