Picked up Type S yesterday here are my initial thoughts...

I sold my 2004 TL NAV Auto, and yesterday picked up my 07 Type S Auto. Unfortunately, I had to drive 120 miles in the rain right after taking delivery. This car feels a bit stronger than the 04, but not much. My 04 had a K&N cold air intake, which this car will get too, eventually. I had some fun with the paddle shifters during a 20 mile jaunt on a back road. I LOVE the updated NAV screen and all the radio buttons. I quickly changed the audio screen colors to red and black to match the rest of the interior illumination. Suspension is quite a bit stiffer. I am not a fan of the wheels, I think 18" should have been standard on the Type S personally. I do have a rattle somewhere near the rear deck that you can hear while the subwoofer is hitting. I paid $36,785 (i think) I know it was $2,000 off sticker. For comparison sake, I paid $35,000ish for the 04. This car is definately worth the difference.

I have a set of OZ Superlaggera III's on order, 18's, and I will be adding a CAI. Any thoughts as to which CAI I should get? Tints will be next week. The car is Carbon Bronze Metallic, with ebony/silver. I love the color!

Which finish of the Superleggera are you gonna get? I would suggest 19" regardless of the finish

Also, thanks for the update on your preference of the TL-S over the base. I'm kind of kicking myself for not waiting until 2007, for a number of reasons....the TL-S option being just one of them.

I got the bright silver with polished lip, and a set of 235/40 Dunlop SP Sport Maxx's. I'm a little concerned about the 40mm offset, does anyone think these will be tucked in too far? My 04 had 18" SSR GT3's and they were 49mm offset and to me, waaaaay tucked in too far. I don't know if the 40 will be that much different.

I didn't want 19's, not around here anyway.

It feels just as quick as my 05 to me too, tho when you hit it, it seems to respond quicker...I think it's probably hard for us to feel the change cuz the TL was already fast to begin with so, the change couldn't be that big to feel it.

the type-s is definately more rough. You feel the bumps on the road much more.

Is the type-s rougher than just the regular suspension, or would you say it is rougher than the aspec suspension on an '06 as well.

Thanks

its rougher than the 06 I had with stock suspension. I never tested out the aspec so im not too sure on the difference between the aspec and type-s.

It is somewhat harsh. I also have a Lotus Elise with the Sport suspension package, and as harsh as the TL is, it is no where near a hard a ride as the Lotus! That's the reason I didn't want to go 19's. 18's will be bad enough I think, with 40's. I couldn't imagine 19's with 35's.

I forgot to mention, I had the dealer install the 3M clear starshield protective film to the front bumper, forward part of the hood and front of the mirrors. My 04 paint was a MESS when I finally sold it because of road debris. The 3M kit was $795 installed, and I think it's well worth the extra money. I have it on my Lotus and my Explorer as well.

Nice. I think it's too early for me to trade in my 05. Definitely with 4Gen or maybe with the 08.

My dealer also told me Acura pulled their allocation of Type S's. He didn't think they were going to keep it around. Who knows what that is about. When will we see 300hp and AWD in the TL????

I paid $2000 of sticker as well for my Type-S ($36785). Also know of someone else who got $2000 off sticker on a base TL at a different dealer. Sounds like $2,000 off is a pretty good deal.

I may or not be correct on this one, but didn't the 07 get drive by wire? That may be the reason for the faster response time..

Another thing I noticed today while driving it... I don't think the interior fit and finish is as good as the 04 was. I also like the cool red LED's the light up your feet at night. It's kind of hokie, but still neat.

Be carefull with the new wheels; they might not fit over the Brembos brakes on the Type-S.

I have the same rattle. Dealers know about it. Take it in and let us know what they do.

My mistake.. I read the whole thing wrong, for some reason I thought someone was saying the 07 TL seems faster than an 05 TL (both non Type-S)

whoops

Update. Called Tirerack the other day after I read this. Sure enough.... The 18's will not fit. I was able to cancel the order, they were almost going out the door. It seems that on the Tirerack website, if you have a TypeS, you HAVE to put in that you have a 6sp car, even if it is auto. Since the auto Type S also has the big brakes. This takes a LOT of wheels off the table for this car. Tirerack says they will update the site to allow you to select TypeS.

Glad to help. I was also looking at those wheels but they did not fit the 6-speeds. The large brakes sure put a damper on the number of wheels that fit.

blazinginder,
I read in another forum about a strut issue in the rear suspension that is causing funny noises in the Type-S. Most have had the struts replaced.

is that true? i've always thought TL-S has a better interior fit. maybe it's cuz my 06 is getting old and when i check out the TL-S in the showroom the interior looks fabulous...

congrats on the new Type S
Although I like the new Type S, I think I'll wait for the new design in 2009 or get something else. My 2004 TL hasn't had any problems and I like it that way

good move on the 3m film. I've been looking around about prices for this, and the cheapest i've seen was 800, going up to 1300. Kick myself for not getting this done asap

regarding cai's,

do you want the most power and a deeper growl? Dont mind a slight whistling noise? Your best bet is an AEM.

If you want a slightly more refined CAI - softer growl, barely audible whistle, not as much power, get an fujitu or injen. Want the ability to convert to a short ram? get an H&R.

If money were not an option, I probably would have chosen the H&R. I'm impressed with the amount of R&D they do and think they have a solid all around product.
