as stated, i am installing my type-s tails tonight and may do a DIY with pics. i'd like to see a pic of the rear end without the bumper, around the tail area if possible, to see if there is any easier way without removing the bumper.

I could post up a pic of all the screws/bolts/mounts you need to remove to get the bumper off

 

there is no easy way about it. you can either remove a few screws/clips and let the bumper hang or remove it completly
