Performance Exhaust

I am looking to purchase a 05 (or late 04) in the next three months. I want the 6M and the A-Spec package. I am surprised to see no discussion here (that I could find) regarding aftermarket performance exhaust systems 9as well as modified air intakes and computer chip enhancements). I currently have a Lexus IS300 and purchased a GReddy exhaust. Fantastic sound!

I know Borla does not currently make one for Gen3 TL's (and they're tit-lipped regarding R&D). I'm waiting to hear back from GReddy, but can't find anything on the web.

Is there a performance ehaust system available for the Gen3 TL?

Thanks

lol well the reason why its not really talked about, is because there isnt anything out there for us to get our hands onto yet.

Comptech is still in the testing stages for their exhaust but thats about it. as for intake, there are quite a few discussions on Injen and AEM intakes (i remember a couple comptech discussions awhile back) so their out there. Once these parts become more common from the aftermarket performance companies, then we will start the discusion.

But until then, its all about waiting...

If you hear back from GReddy then let us know

Unfortunately, we haven't heard too much info yet. Everyone is waiting for those aftermarket parts... Does IS300 get all the aftermarket parts in its first year? IS300/Civic seem to be the best MOD vehicles, IMHO..., it won't be surprised if they have more parts... :o

I figured it was lack of product and not me missing something on the posts. It's a shame though. From reading these threads it's obvious this car has a very enthusiastic 'tuner' following. The GReddy on my IS300 not only bumps the HP but also adds a noticeably improved sound to acceleration (not the crappy bad lawnmower sound you hear on some of those Civis tooling around or the outrageous headers blasting away even while idling you hear on more traditional muscle cars).

Hopefully we can keep this particular thread up with thoughts from others who would like to add a performance exhaust and then we can bring it to the manufacturer's attention.

To answer your question on the timing of IS300 aftermarket parts. My IS300 is a 2001 (first year) and I bought it in Aug of 01 (so approximately 1 year after being introduced). The GReddy was already available at that time. Borla told me they could 'fit' something on, but I didn't want to go there.

hey you got any sound clips of your is300? there is this kid who just got an is300 at my school and he is pissed that i got the TL, just curious what i have to look forward to, to this comming year when school starts.

Anyways, I think we caught all these manufactures off gaurd, because this car was built for a totaly different age group then how it seems to be catching on now.

your IS is small sporty, its definatly gunna go to people who are youngish and feel greedy for more power.

Once we get this boulder to budge, its easy rolling from there on

Here's the response from GReddy...

Currently there are no plans for an exhaust for the TL, but we may possibly offer something later this year.
Please check back with our website www.greddy.com for updates or contact an
authorized GReddy Dealer http://www.greddy.com

The "possibly later this year" comment would sortof fit with the timing of the IS300 release.

If everyone who wants this would contact them, maybe R&D would get the message!

I don't have a sound clip of my IS300, but I'll make one soon and post.

The CompTech is ugly as hell - they went with their typical tucked, round tips.

There certainly will not be much HP in any of these exhausts - the stock system is hydroformed, and has very smooth bends as a result. It is a much better design than the previous TL's, and they produced little power - the dynos all showed gains at the highest RPM, and sounded nice (had the full header to catback on my 2002), but if anything, I found the midrange power dropped a bit.

Do it for sound, but I ould not expect much in the way of SOTP improvement.

I'm hopeful someone will find improvements in the collector and turn into the light-off cats and the 2:1 pipe after the cats. Visually, those look like the the areas where packaging and ease of manufacturing probably won out. I don't think there will be much power in cat-back systems, but they may sound a bit better (subjective).

that might be a good way to improve on the stock system through a muffler shop.

Go with mandrel bent tubing in those areas and add a muffler of choice.
