Deja Vu. Now at 20,000 miles
Looks like 6spMike and I are the only ones here with real clutch issues.
I may have to take a refresher course on shifting manual transmissions after 28 years doing just that and never encountering any clutch problems.
I have the same issue now at 20,000 miles that I had at 7,100 miles.
I used to love my car, but I cannot take it anymore. I am getting out of manual shifting !!!!

I posted on this thread early on about my car having 15k on it but grinds 3rd sometimes. Went to acura had the new acura MTF put in. Well it got worse and my clutch felt like it was slipping. Took it into the dealership and had clutch, flywheel installed under warranty. This was at about 21k miles. Shortly after I began to have the third gear grind and pop out of gear symptom again. Dealership has no fixes other then the fluid change I called Acura customer service and again they are aware of the problem and are working on a fix. Currently have 30k miles on car and its the worst manual transmission vehicle I have owned in the last 15years. I have had 3 manual preludes, 1 manual accord for honda products and those shifted better with 100-200k miles on them then my TL does.

Hey man I was told today by acura that I need a new clutch, I am not a rough driver by any means, now I am facing a 2300 repair bill. I have had several manuals 2nd and 3rd owner vehicles that I got to 150K miles without replacing a clutch. this seems weird that I need to replace it in a TL this soon, granted it has 70K highway miles it still seems weird. Is there anyway this could be a manufacture issue?

23K on my '05, no problems...although it slipped bigtime once on a rushed 1-2 shift
12K on my '07 Type S, no problems, but there's no doubt the clutches in these cars are weak.
I remember my dad bought a new '91 Legend with a rare manual, and had nothing but clutch problems from new until he sold it with 40K on it. This model was Honda's first attempt at a 6 cyl/manual/fwd. I think he had 3 clutches replaced under warranty due to pressure plate issues. He's never owned anything but manual cars, so it wasn't his driving. The way it shifted and clutch takeup remind me a lot of the TL.
It seems that Honda was not (is not?) up to the task of designing high-horsepower front drive transaxles. IIRC, the 6-speed Legend coupe was also problematic in terms of the clutch. The designs have to be very similar. They're all 3.2L (or 3.5 now), front drive, Honda/Acura manual transmissions. I think I read recently in Car & Driver that the NSX clutch was also a notorious weak spot.
The 3rd gear issue many of us have experienced (in both of my 3G's, for example) is even further evidence of Honda's failings in the manual trans/6cyl department.

i had to get mine changed recently at 30k miles dued to a messed up pressure plate and it was covered under warranty and not because my clutch was gone. my problem was that i couldn't get into first gear and reverse.

54000 miles and one of the best manuals I have driven. Of course after the help of the GM folks and their tranny fluid. They really should just stop making cars and focus on making this stuff cheaper

'05 with 44k miles, 2nd owner, clicking in the clutch pedal was fixed by the dealer replacing the clutch master cylinder under warranty. Now I am having some minor issues with 2nd and 6th being difficult from time to time to get into gear. All other gears are smooth as butter.

when i bought my tl with 51xxx miles the clutch was slipping at redline shifts from 2nd to 3rd. I took it to the dealership and they told me it was cuz i wasnt pressing the pedal to the floor, after i started doing this i havent had a problem.

Seriously man, how do shift without pressing the clutch all the way to the floor? Not telling you how to drive your car or anything like that.....Just be careful. You don't want to be replacing that clutch before it's time to.

'07 TLS with 22k on it now. I've noticed these 3 problems since about 10k:
1. Difficulty shifting into third gear.
2. Grinding while shifting into third gear.
3. Transmission pops out of third gear
Next time I take it to the shop, i'll have to ask about the fluid replacement.
Thanks for the tip!

Man of God.....
Great clutch in my car!!
I love my mushy-bushy soft little clutch. I have had no trouble in 51k. miles. I did change to the Amsoil in the tranny. Smooth as butter now. No 3rd gear problems at all!
