My uncle has been patroling all over Los Angeles for over 10 years and what he and most of his other fellow officers say the most about citations in general is that "it mostly depends on the officers mood wether you'll get cited or not". Which would explain why in the past I have been cited for going 75mph in a 65mph freeway and on another day at about the same time I was pulled over for going 90mph in that 65mph freeway and all the officer said was..."slow down will ya" and didn't cite me at all. That's not the way it should be...but that's the way it is.

Local ordinances say front license plates are required.

So, again, why is the OP's ticket meaningless?
im sorry but thats like saying people should get tickets for jaywalking since it's against the law

i really dont believe you should get tickets for not having your front plates on, its not hurting anyone
now giving a warning or requesting you to put your plate back on sounds better than having to pay $50-$150 for something silly

People should get tickets for jaywalking. Or, better yet, it should be legal to run them over. If you walk out in front of oncoming cars that are approaching a green light, you're a fucking moron and the principle of "Darwin in Action" should apply. When the sign changes to "Don't Walk," you are to stop and wait on the sidewalk. If I've got a green light, I'm not stopping for you if you walk illegally.

You're right, people should get tickets for jaywalking if it's against the law.

If the law is on the books, then the person violating that law shouldn't bitch and complain if cited for breaking that law. Don't like the damn law? Write your local representative and try to have it changed, but until that point in time:

You play. You pay.

That's the way it's always been...

If jaywalking were illegal where I live, and a cop caught me doing it, I would wait patiently for him/her to write me a ticket, if the cop chose to do so. I would not complain.

Keep in mind that the notion of severity is somewhat subjective. While you may think getting a ticket for jaywalking is "silly," others might not. Imagine that jaywalker trying to cross 3 lanes of heavy traffic that is travelling at 45-55 mph, and think about how that minor jaywalking infraction could quickly and easily turn into someone getting seriosuly injured/killed.
