Parallel parking
#2
i live in brooklyn and parallel park my car all the time. if you are worried about safety then it all depends on which neighborhood you are in. i've never really had a problem with any car in brooklyn(knock on wood).

You also need to be afraid of scuffing your rims on the curb. This is just as dangerous as getting your bumper scratched. Put your mirror button on the right mirror and watch the curb carefully when you park.

Your right about scuffing the rims on the curb. This is something you can avoid if your careful. Another person scratching your rear bumper when they are parking can't be avoided unless you don't parallel park.

There are spots in the residential areas that are some parking spots are seperated by driveways. The spots for meters in brooklyn are spacious or so I remember in that area.

its going to be tough for you to get a good spot in that neighborhood. use to live around there for 14 years before moving out. meter spots are not as spacious as some people might think. ppl parking in front or back of you will still hit your bumper even though they have plenty of space to get out or in. try finding a spot further down 7th avenue or on 6th avenue. avoid the side street, parking spots there are really tight.

Has anyone seen the part of Boston where all the Italian restaurants are located? I've never seen so many new cars parallel parked with little more than 1" between the bumpers. You guys from Boston get my compliments on your ability to park in spots that I'd never even consider. I'm not that good!!

if you park on 8th ave there are spots with meters on them, they are very spacios like another poster stated. it is unlikely that someone will bump into your bumper there. the side streets are much more tighter spots so try to avoid those. but if you just look for spots on the avenues with meters they should be fine.

3 words: Indoor Parking garage.
Park on an end and as far away as you can from the car parked next to you. Ideally have the your car next to a passenger door- some people drive alone.
