Paint Chipping from Bird Poop?
Hey guys, I just noticed that on my hood, closer to the windshield than the front, there is a spot, in the shape of bird poop, that is chipping. The paint is cracking in that area and it is definitely coming off!!!
Has anyone ever experienced this from bird poop? Or could it be caused by something else?? Anyone??
Is this covered under my warranty??

I bought the teflon paint protection for my black car, and many of you guys said its a waste of money, I eventually got a really good deal for it. Covers all paint wear.
Good Luck!

Paint protection is worthless against bird shit. Nothing except a clear bra will protect against that crap. Think about it.....paint protection is only a few molecules thick so there is no way it's going to protect against bird crap acid or rock chips.

Oh yes my friend. Bird crap is NOTHING to mess with. It will kick your cars ass every time if you leave it on. You MUST get it off the same day - sooner the better. No matter how much wax the car has - it will eat through it. Left some on my old Mazda one time - on the spoiler, just cause I was lazy and did not know better, it forever left a ring.

My last car, a black 02 Lincoln LS, did have the paint etched by bird poop. I washed as soon as I saw it, but to no avail. If it was bird poop, you will see visible damage to the surface not just peeling.
I also had a 97 Lincoln Mark VIII that had a spot the size of a nickle just peel off at the carwash leaving the primer showing a month after I bought it. That was actual Ford's fault. Something like oil dripping from the assembly line got in between the primer coat and the finished color. Ford picked up the repair under the warranty.

My Maxima experienced the same fate. I didn't think bird poop did any damage when I saw it on the roof. I left it there for 2 weeks, cooking under the hot sun; and when I did wash it the paint was about to curdle.

This happened to me too. I left it on for three days (not in the sun, I might add) and it etched the paint. It's not a large imprefection, but it does eat away the paint. The day before I also put on four coats of Zaino car wax. So it was kinda an experiment for me to see how tough that sh** is ~~no pun intended

I would try and find the bird that pooped on your car and file suit against them.

Keep Right Except to Pass
Can't help you with fixing it, but for future prevention purposes, someone gave me a package of Griot's Garage Speed Shine wipes and they work very well for this purpose--you just wipe off the bird shit when you see it. Just make sure you have a cotton or microfiber cloth in the trunk that you can use to buff off the excess Speed Shine.

I have seen this before when some sealer during the manufacturing process lands on the vehicle before it has been painted. As the sealer cures the paint cracks and eventually rubs or falls off.

What I'll suggest is to polish the area applying some rubbing compounf first and hope the damage is in clear coat. If not, it's more work.

Whenever i hear rubbing compound it makes me quiver. Many times people dont use the proper compound grade and make a mess of the paint. Try the less drastic approach of clay bar or do a search on compunding before you jump into that. Let us know how you make out

IMO - Even if you wash your car every 10 days or so. I don't think bird poop would quite give you that cracking. pics required - not for me thou - the other guys on the forum will be able to give you a much better answer than I. The answer would be that much better if you had a pic.
