Paint bumps in bumper?
Hi all,
I know several people have reported flaking bumper paint or dust embedded within the clearcoat along the body of their car, but has anyone actually seen bumps within the paint? I just found two bumps on the right (passenger side) rear bumper, one of which is the size of a small bug bite or a chicken pox mark, and the other is a little smaller. They're right next to each other, and I do not believe I've ever noticed it before.
I tried pushing it and it didn't deflate or anything, which makes me think there's a lump of paint underneath it.
I'd take photos for everyone but my Canon S400 just broke this weekend and is on its way for repair as we speak. All these problems (my ReplayTV broke too but fixed itself after it cooled down) after getting the loaner TL scraped by some jackass this weekend... sigh.

I have the same thing....passenger front right under the turn signal.. I am not really worried about it. I then have the paint flake on the drivers side turn signal (underneath)

I don't think mine was there when I bought the car, and it probably only showed up recently after parking the car in the sun at my client's site. I thought they were air bubbles too but when you push on them it's really hard so it seems like a lump of paint vs a bubble.
If I can take a photo of it I will.

No, I believe orange peel refers to how the paint looks in light -- like the uneven surface of an orange. As far as I know, it does not actually mean that the paint is PHYSICALLY like an orange peel.
My understanding of orange peel reflects paint that dries unevenly, which is then "sealed" over with clear coat so it locks in that uneven, bumpy look.

Not a flashlight but the flash of the Canon S400 that I borrowed from my friend since my freaking S400 died on me this weekend...
Yes, they're solid bumps. Really odd.
Oh, and as beautiful as the color is, if I end up buying a house the car is the first to go Unfortunately I don't think I'll recover enough money to pay off my loan, either. The wonders of 1st year car depreciation.

I initially thought when you meant a bumpy surface, it did look like the exterior of an orange. At least, that's what I thought I said.
Either way, I've never seen that on a car before...sorry...have you taken it to the dealer?

No, I haven't taken it to the dealer because the closest one is the same one that I'm waiting to hear back from regarding an estimate on the bumper scuff on their loaner TL. (It got scuffed while I was in the supermarket by some asshole!).
But I'll probably drop by the dealer where I bought the car and have them give me an OK to get it repainted.

I took it into the service department where I bought the car - Stevens Creek. Once they get in the new door panels for my car (Yes, rattles galore!) they will send the car to the body shop for repainting under warranty.
Sturken Auto Body - anyone heard anything about these guys?
