This may be long. I bought this TL and it needed some paint and body work, more than original owner said (I bought it Killen, TX, I'm in Memphis and paid 12000 with 83000 miles). Anyway here is the price list for things being done. The guy doing it just got laid off and doing it from home, he has 13 yrs exp.

Front bumper was wrinkled(actual bumper was) where license plate was and rock chips, repair and paint $300

Hood had "chemical burn" from previous paint job, had to take down 75% to metal, repair and paint $340

"Blend both Fenders" to match hood and bumper $140

Left lower qt panel had little rust, repair and paint $330

Rear bumper had scratches, some to urethane and to blend with left qt panel, repair and paint $225

Right rear qt panel right next to trunk on top had medium size chip out of it, where it is is hard to determine where to terminate, repair and paint $125-$175

While front bumper getting painted I decided to get lower grill inserts painted AM to match rest of car, $75

Side mirrors were chipped, paint $100

The rail above passengers windows had 1 small ding and 1 medium ding and near the back was real dull, $200

Spray on clear bra by Dominion Sure Seal the product is called Crystal Clear 2K Chip Guard $200-$250

Fixed pass front window problem(something in way) $25

Polish and detail $75

Total $2135 to $2235

sounds good nice job ^^ i need to get my front bumper repainted too -_- but it's not severe, the lady i bought it from drove into a BUSH... who does that... minor scratches over the ACURA area and below it just randomly from the branches...

Not really good before pics, I do not have good camera and not good at taking pics. He said there are some during photos he took and I will take after pics. The problem areas were from minor(normal chips and scratchs) to minor dings and medium rust. These are things being done and will be finished this week. With weather he has had it for 13 days.

My car could use a paint job as well. A new maaco opened up pretty close to me and the guy there told me he could do a mask,sand,spray, wetsand. for 800 bucks and it would look good as new. Very tempting, but still hesitant because of the rep that maaco has. If your cars going to be over 2g's is 800 a little TOO cheap?

 

Yeah, do not go there, believe the stories. My painter told me they can pump out 6-10 cars in one day, how good is the quality with that many in one day with 12-15 employees. For my painter to do whole car right was around $5000-$6000.

 

no maaco job, if u want to pay 800 for a paint job then you will recieve a 800 dollar paint job and you can tell the differnce.

your painter seem pretty knowledgeable. i justwant to know why he would charge you extra to paint the lower grill? usually it is free since they already mixed the paint =\
but the quotes are about right.

 

the prices dont match up to me. 30.00 more to paint rear bumper than front which was worse than rear. Only 100.00 to spray the chip guard on front bumper, 1/4 or 1/3 of hood, inserts and rearview mirrors. I guess the 75.00 for lower inserts in grill is for prep. He did do some minor work on my 94 Impala SS so I could sell it and get this TL, so he said he is giving me some breaks on things and making up in others?

 

^If it doesn't make sense to you, ask him why the prices are different. Ask him the techniques and tools he will be using for each job at hand.

 

He did explain, I guess he just giving brakes on some and not on others. Like the clear bra, it takes five coats, only 100 for labor. Anyway, overall I think the total $ is still a good deal.

I just pray that the quality is there an evrything blends well. I am going to wait about a month to do the Zaino thing.

Why not just get the whole car painted your own favorite color?!

 

I'd wait 3 months for the paint to fully harden and cure. You don't want to mess with that shit.

 

To paint the car AM was going to be $5000 - $6000, He had done one just like mine at his previous job that was hit in front really bad and came out great from what i saw in pictures. I really have to wait 3 months to use Zaino!!?? I am going to paints website ^ above and check, that sounds to long.

 

Oh, I got peeps down in Houston/TX in general to do a full warrantied paint job for $3000

 

This guy I use says he applies 2 coats of primer(sands after each coat), 2-3 coats of base and 1 dust coat of clear then 3 regular coats of clear. He does this on repairs and/or full body paint jobs unless customer requests something else. I bought this car in Round Rock, TX near Killeen, TX.

I'm curious about this stuff. Were you there when it was applied?

How did the body guy like using it?

Does it look good?

My understanding is that you should wait 90 days after initial apint application to apply this stuff (as per advice from Dominion seal)

Any comments would be appreciated.

I was not there when it was applied. He liked it, but said it took awhile to get used to spraying cause of the viscocity/thickness. It looks great, u can see the lines where it stops but not as much as wraps. If not careful it will orange peel, but great thing is it can be polished. It is no more than a clear coat that goes on thicker and has a rubberized feeling. Waiting 90 days i could not find on their site. He said he did not see it in the instructions either.
Will have pics when weather gets better and i can detail the car.
