Our TLs have a factory AT filter
Coming from the Accord world I had a hunch that our ATs had transmission filters. The 3.2 is basically the same as the 3.0 that is in 7gen Accords. Someone on gen7accord.net (great forum btw) discovered that both the I4 and V6 had factory filters. Honda makes no mention of this in any of the maintanence scheduling for uknown reasons.
Reference this thread for pictures and how to change the V6 AT filter (page 4). Use these exact same steps to change the TL filter.
http://gen7accord.net/forums/viewtop...mission+filter
To confirm this for our TLs I went on acuraoemparts.com and, sure enough, it was identical to the Accord.
Reference the schematic below:
To change the filter you will need numbers 7, 22, 21, 24, 24. I think that's all. I dunno.
99% of all Honda/Acura techs don't know this tranny has a filter. If you ask them about this they will look at you dumbfounded. You can imagine how nasty this filter will probably be on your car because it has most likely never been changed. I would change this filter every 30K.
edit: Here is the link for acuraoemparts.com to order the filter and parts http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...All&vinsrch=no

About the not being in the service manual. I dunno. It's crazy. Why in the world would Honda put a filter on something (that is also easily accessed) and not tell anyone or put it in regular maintenance??

3G TL-S looks a bit different. It's and RL based tranny though, IIRC. Easier, I think with only 2 parts: Filter and washer/O-Ring; ~$12 in parts.
I couldn't find anything in the service manual either. Wonder if it was added later - after '04.

Sorry, wasn't trying to be an ass, smart or other wise (this time) - honest.
I just meant, "Are you looking for more proof than the fact it exists in the parts list?" Then posted the parts list and model use as a reference.
Posted '07 TL-S 'cause thats the model link I have saved as a favorite.

I was curious about this (I have a 6MT but my wife has a 2003 pilot with a 5AT), so I called the local Honda dealer and asked them if they ever change the filter in AT's in Honda's. The service tech who answered said no, however I'm thinking about replacing the filter in my wife's Pilot now. It is a different configuration than shown above, but looks pretty striaghtforward and easy to replace.

Quiet, Rika Neenja!
Dood you're from Gilroy. I've been there, there is a sweet brewpub up in morgan hill. Me and my buddy ran the wall (I think it was 20+ beers? don't worry we split each one.)

Cruisin'
2007 TL ATF Filter??
Does the 2007 TL not have the AT filter? The diagram says for 2004-2006. Just want to make sure when I do the 3 x 3 change to get the filter if it has one.

The TL-S in 07 and 08 have one but to change it you have to take out the trans. It is located behind the bell housing. How do I know? well I have a brand new trans filter on the shelf that I cant put in lol

To answer your question, Yes! I have an '04 so it was easier to change(right under the air intake box) than the newer TL's (07-08). That thing was quite dirty(black), and it only had around 30,***miles on it. I got it from my dealer's parts department, and they had never sold 1! Thought that was very weird, considering it would be an upsell for parts, and labor for them. Sorry no pics, I am still new here and I really only have a pic of the thing dirty. There are some other pics of other members filters on here somewhere. My

The 04-06 TL's have a 3-axis transmission in them. This unit has an external filter. The purpose of this filter is to keep contamination from transfering from the cooler back into the transmission.
The 07 to current model TL's are equiped with a 4-axis transmission which is a complete (and more durable) animal. It's return filter is located inside the transmission and cannot be changed with out disassembly of the transmission.
All Honda ATM's have a separate filter referred to as an ATF strainer. This is also located inside the transmission. The purpose of this filter is to catch internal contamination such as friction material and small bits of metal that results from transmission break-in, and it keeps this material from entering the oil pump.
