I'm aware, but in PR, I've heard that just having a good number of contacts CAN help. I actually just joined Facebook about a week ago, and from what I've heard potential employers may just give it a quick glance to make sure there are no drunkin pictures or anything embarassing.
On LinkedIn, your profile is a better judge of who you know or who knows you. It's just for looks really, unless someone on here is hiring for entry level marketing/PR .
And yes my major was 98% women. I had several classes where I was the ONLY guy.

 

I'm currently majoring in PR as well! I haz no LI account though.

 

I graduated from University of Missouri a year ago, since then i have heard all about linkedin but have no idea what its possibly used for.

 

I've been on it for a long time. It's like Facebook, but for work, basically.

It's a place to network for business, post your resume and get a job.

 

You should join. It could be helpful in the long run.

I concur, having a linkedin can only help you.

As you gain more experience and update your linkedin, the more interest you'll get. I had one IT staffing company stalk me and find my current work phone # for a job up in norcal for a big name networking company.

off topic, but they had a huge password leak a month or so ago, but they seem to have remedied it by salting their password hashes. If you made your account in the past few weeks you should be OK.
