Optima Yellow Top

Just got my Optima Yellow Top dropped by the Fed Ex guy. Ordered it off Ebay a back on the 4/25. Though it might be a fake but he had good feed back from people that had taken delivery already. So I took the chance and ordered it. Every thing looks legit, was sent directly from Optima in San Antonio Tx. I only paid 129.00 shipped every were else was close to 200.00. The add said any Optima Yellow or Red 129.00.

Here is the link (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=150596174980) The auction but maybe he will re list some more.
I got the D34/78 Yellow Top

Optima batteries

OK just got a email from the seller there up again. There up again any Optima Yellow or Red top batteries. Look like the price went up a bit but still looks like a good deal. Here is the link if any one is interested (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Optim...item23107b0f1b).

Its not fake, I thought it was at first but asked a few questions and it seemed good, so I placed my order and about a week later the Fed Ex guy dropped it off at my work. Came directly from Optima in San Antonio TX. in the box. Just make sure you keep all the receipts for warranty purposes.

i've had my yellow top for roughly 4 yrs now. Its worth the peace of mind of not having to worry about that pos oem battery crapping out on me at the worst time.

From what I read its 3 then after that its prorated (Different if you use it for commercial use). This is from Optima website. For receipt I'm sure you can use bank statement or the pay pal receipt as well. He also emails a receipt when you purchase it. You can also register the battery on Optima's website.

you know that the optima battery is made by the same people as interstate; johnson controls (let alone depending on your climate that interstate will likely last you at least 5 years)

Oh yeah, I trust my Interstate but I want a deep cycle so I can listen to some music for extended periods with the car off.

And why kill a battery that way? Put a wrench over the terminals and run lol

you know anytime you drain a battery down like that, it shortens it's life EVEN if it is a deep cycle (it's just better able to handle it though, and last longer under that type of work load)
btw i think there are also deep cycle interstates even, just might have to order one though (it's mainly at marine places, but any dealer should be able to order you one though)

AND or videos....

Is the red or yellow better to handle a stereo/alarm system?

The Sears Diehard Platinum is a much better dry cell battery than the Optima. Since they were bought out many years ago, quality has been hit or miss. I had one of the old ones that lasted 7yrs and the new ones seem to go every year or so in the GN. My father replaced 3 yellow tops in his GN, one never worked. These were mounted in the trunk so no heat or harsh conditions. Tried one in his daily driver and had the same results. We even took one of them in because the sales rep wanted to put his special charger on it. Still no luck. IMO, there's much better for the money out there, this is old technology still sold at cutting edge prices. With that said, I have a red top in the TL because I got a great deal on it but I doubt it's going to last one more winter. It scared me a few times this winter. Battery is about 3 years old.

wow.. I didn't know they were bought out. Thanks for the heads up! Last Yellow Top I ran was in the Accord. It didn't go through any winter weather but it ran a 1kW system without issue for 7+ years as well (sold to a family member a few years back).

Yep, the old ones were great. The new ones are all over the place. Some seem to have great luck and others are bad right out of the box. I'm literally batting about 50% right now. The one in the TL is scary in the winter and I need to replace it because I don't want to kill the starter. To be fair, the body shop ran it completely dead twice and it's never been the same since.

As if that shop didn't screw you over enough. We had to leave the Accord twice for more than 1 month. Each time the alarm drained the yellow top.. after a jump start and letting it charge up it was a champ. Sounds like quality control really took a dump once it changed hands.. they're just selling a brand name now. shame.

That shop owes me a new car as far as I'm concerned. I have a pop in the car that is looking more and more like a structural issue from their welds but that's another thread.

It seems like the new Optimas are either really good or really bad, not a whole lot of in between. Glad the one in your Accord came back to life. I thought the deep cycle were made to be run way down and come back, is that right?

i believe the yellows are more suited for that near complete drain. Which is why they are suited for those with stereo systems or appliances which significantly drain the battery.

You got it, but completely discharging it will significantly shorten it's lifespan.

what is the shelf life of a battery like this? I may be needing a new battery within the next maybe 6 months, would it be a bad idea to buy one and hold onto it for a few months before installing it?

fyi, interstate batteries will change out the stock periodically if the battery has been sitting on the shelf too long

but the biggest thing you can do is maybe charge it periodically so it does not go dead on you by just sitting (they do self-drain, not much but they do eventually drain themselves)

The reason I bought mine because I had a dead battery after the car sat for one week, this was after driving the car on a 200 mile weekend trip up the coast. So I bought the battery and got it a week later. So in the mean time I had to run the original battery. So one week later I use the car again and it stared and been doing so. When the battery went dead first thing I checked was for anything I might of left on in the car but found nothing that I normally not leave on (Light auto, and interior lights also to door mode). So I have no idea why it went dead, So I guess I'm just going to wait to replace it and charge the new one every other week.

No I didn't get a tracking # either but it came about a week later but I'm sure it probably varies depending were you live.
