Opinions wanted!!!
Hi guys,
I'm new to this forum, and would like to your opinion. I currently own a 2002 Acura RSX, which I bought brand new. I have always loved the 3G TL's and was hoping that one day I could trade my RSX for one.
Well, the chance has finally come. My buddy goes to auctions, and I told him if he ever found a TL to let me know. He found a 04 TL 6 speed w/ 98K miles which he paid 8K for at auction. I love the car and everything seems to be in great condition. He is willing to do a direct trade for the car where he would take my car and I would get the TL. My RSX currently has 67K miles, and I have added a lot of extras to the car over the years.
I just bought a condo so I can't really afford to pay any additional money up front for a car. Considering all I have to pay for is registering the car and transfering plates I'm really want to get into the TL. There is a 30K mile difference between the cars, and I really don't know what the previous owner did to the car (I carfaxed the car) and it has a clean record.
What do you guys think is this win/win situation, or should I keep waiting. I looked and I can't find any 04 TL's going for $8K which I would not pay a dime for because I would be trading my RSX.
Thanks for your opinions!

If it was well taken care of, I'd say go for it. I had an 02 RSX, manual and it had a few first year issues, A/C, relays that went out, etc. The TL is a solid car and it is much quieter ride.
Is it navi?

No the car doesn't come w/ Navi, and the RSX hasn't really had many problems. I think my transmission is just about to call it quits. Its a five speed automatic.
I agree when I first bought the car I was in High School, but I just don't feel right driving it anymore.

You will love the 6 spd, make a huge difference in the TL.
Did a quick price check and
TL avg retail $11,400-13,400
RSX $8,500-10,500
So the TL is worth a bit more than the RSX, if he is willing to do an even trade an the TL is clean i'd go for it.
One thing to remember is that the TL is due for a T-belt service soon which runs between $800-1200 depending on where you take it.

Bimmerman, I know what mean it is due for a timing belt, and I don't see many 6 speeds for sale in my area which is why I want the car. Its actually SSM just like your, minus the aspec kit. lol

Mine is a 6 spd as well, I actually choose my 6 spd over an auto just like it with navi and would make the same deceision again.
I'd go for it, just put some money aside for the maintenace that is soon to come. The plus side is that once that is done you should be trouble free till at least 175K or so.

Thanks for the opinion guys. I think I'm going to get the TL, but I going to do a major tune up. With 98K miles I really have no clue what the previous ower did to their vehicle.

It sounds like a sound trade and you know about the timing belt service and tune up that will be needed. The only thing I would stress is if a mechanical issue comes up with your car or the TL, you should prevent any tension between you and your friend. You should either agree to something like a 30-day return, otherwise agree that the trade is as-is / no guarantee / no warranty. Making terms before the trade will make things clear if anything should arise. Sounds like a good deal though.

Actually, there are a a lot of TL's in Danbury, but I just don't think they are on this site. I sure hope everything turns out to be in good shape on the vehicle. Even at 98K miles I haven't seen any TL's going for $8K.
