Opinions on 3000k low beam

provided i can find a legit, non-chinese D2S,,, what are your opinions for using 3000k headlight for bad weather visibility? my fogs don't even shine 10 feet ahead, andddd it'd be cool to have yellow high beam when foggy and nobody's around.

3k on headlights? Maybe if it was civic, even then doubt it.

Don't ruin Acura's beautiful HIDs.

You really don't know what you're doing, do you? 3000K is good for fogs and that's about all. Keep it between 4200K and 5000K (CBI, SVS, 85122+, etc) for normal driving. You would need those 3000Ks on high at night just to see where you're going.

Don't know why anybody would change the the bulbs on a TL, I find the stock hid bulbs are bright as is. Anything else would be just silly.

i had to drive through some fog one time, and no matter how i used the headlamps, i could not see beyond 20 feet.

it's not about brightness. it's about penetrating the fog and dust.

Just get the custom pink color. Now that looks badass as long as you are not sitting behind it.

Horrible light output.

If you don't have very good output why would you duplicate it for the lows.
Get the nokya yellows instead of hid for fogs and it may help with your visibility.
For headlights I would stay with 4300 to 6000k. for most useable light.

But its your life.

If your having visibility issues from your headlights, I'd check to see if they're hazed over and clean the lens. Next I would check into replacing the HID bulbs. IDK what year your car is but it could range from 4-8 years old and you're more than likely due to replace the bulbs. HIDs gradually dim over time from each use. You could replace them with Philips 85122+ ($95) or The Osrams 66240 CBI's ($185) or SVS ($185). And if that isn't good enough, go ahead and open up the housing and replace the projector lens with ZKW-R lens. I got these prices from theretrofitsource.com

Right now the Osram combo is the best on the market. CBI's 5000K or SVS 4200K. From comparison shots there's not enough difference between the bulbs (lumens-wise, SVS may be a bit brighter [according to some owners]) to choose one over the other. One has bright white light (CBIs) and the other has warm more of an OE color. Both are the brightest bulbs out so far, from what I've researched. Seems like it's more down to personal preference.

Now for the fogs, just replace the bulbs with Nokya yellows, like Sauceja mentioned, unless you just wanna go the HID route.

There's a reason you have fog lights and headlights.

If you use 3000k for your headlights.

Forgot to add the difference in lumens between The Philips 85122+ and the Osram's (CBI's or SVS) is 300 lumens/bulb. An extra 600 lumens is a big difference.

85122+ 3200lm
SVS/CBIs 3500lm

Add better fog lights and put the 3000k's in them. I still wanna see somebody add Blazer fog projectors on a TL, I had them on my last vehicle and they were tits.

First of all, 3000k is misused marketing term applied to lights that are either selective yellow, or mimic selective yellow. In reality, 3000k is not yellow, it's more of a dull brown, like old sealed beam headlamps.

Anyways, you can buy legit selective yellow HIDs. IIRC Phillips still makes them in D2R and D2S because there's still limited demand among Asians and the crazy French (who mandated selective yellow headlights up until 1993).

So should you use them for low beams? No. Selective yellow lamps don't actually "penetrate fog and dust" better than halogen or HID lamps, that's just a marketing ploy. The only advantage they offer in poor weather is reduced glare sensation for the driver. This is partly because the light's intensity is reduced via filtering, and partly because the blue and violet light (which triggers the "glare" sensation) is filtered out.

This site should provide some useful reading on the subject: http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...ght_color.html
