only 15K and have chip marks on the hood

As i was washing my car, i noticed tiny chip marks on the hood. And i only have 15K on the car. Seems like everyone's car on this forum is in perfect condition with no scratches or chip marks esp on the hood. Does acura use cheap paint? or am i just unlucky?

I have 10,000 miles and the same, good sized white holes on the hood.

Theres really no way to fix them without going into the paint shop

If you want to avoid rock chips, drive like 100ft back from the car in front of you otherwise expect rock chips.

OR

Buy a clear bra.

I have almost 11k on mine and have 1 rock chip on the windshield pillar. I do a clear bra. In states where they salt and sand the road, it's a must unless you want your car sandblasted from all the crap on the roads. Most of the roads here in Illinois suck with all the potholes and loose asphalt.

My NBP hood looks like a Dalmatian with all the white spots. That's actually a complete exageration, but at 45K miles, I hoped it'd hold up a bit better.

Which cars have better paint? I'm unaware of any car that is impervious to chips.

My TL actually has less chips than my last car despite my driving style being the same.

Mine's in perfect condition at 79,000......... Because I had it repainted. By 60K, my black TL looked like it was gray in the front bumper, on the fenders, and hood from the millions of chips. I would purposely not wash it anymore than I needed to because it looked worse right after washing it than it did a couple days later after it had a little dust.

The paint is very thin. Nothing you can really do besides install one of the clear bras.

My bodyshop used a thicker coat and so far it seems to be holding up better. With the amount of freeway driving I used to do, it was pretty chipped up at only 20K.

I was thinking the same thing. Keying and Buddy just don't go together.

I've got two chips on my trunk lid. It's been like that after about a month of ownership.

The paint may be thin, but I have less chips( I actually only have a couple despite living in New England) on my car than my brothers 335. Mines a year older with the same miles(highway city mix).

The clear bra is the best answer. Get your paint right and put a clear bra over it. Do your lights, too. Keeps them from getting fogged as well as chipped.

If you take your time and do it right you can get some amazing results. If you're not already familiar with 2000 grit wet-or-dry, polishing compound, etc., read the threads on touchup here, Google "touchup" and read other posts about it. Take your time. Do it right.

well obviously i wasnt his friend when i was keying his car lol... I was really mad at him for something and the best way to get back at him at that time was to key his bmw lol. but seriously, took several tries to leave a good noticable key mark.

BTW do you think clear coating the car well help from getting chipped and keyed?

Sometimes the problem is the adhesion between layers on Honda's paint. The e-coat primer will adhere, but the base/clear will ship. Sometimes the whole film thickness will chip.

Honda does not use much clear, the clear build is pretty thin. Also, the clear they use is not the durable "scratch resistant" type found on some Germans/other higher end cars. It's definitely on the soft side.

Any paint will chip, but Honda is not on the durable side at all.

I have more chips on my bumper than everyone on AcuraZine combined. I have like 100-200 "very small" chips because I drive on the highway 90% of the time and run 25k miles at least on the highway per year.

I had a few. I found this acura paint color touch up pen, got my car color, and it worked great. Too bad the company went out of business, but it worked like a charm

I have an '08 (NBP) in great shape with 16,000 miles and yes it has some tiny chips on the hood.

Anyone know how much to repaint the hood? Since the car's like new, this is the one thing that pees me off. I've heard Audi has great paint.

I bought the 08 T.L. over an 05 Audi A-6 with 15,000 miles on it. The Audi was also in great shape, but I decided on the T.L. since it was three years newer. The T.L. had 7,000 miles when I bought it last October and now it has 16,000.

It was in better shape than the 09 TSX that I just traded in with only 11K miles! The TSX had a 2 chips down to the bare metal so I had 2 rusty chips/spots already after just 10 months. My TL has chips all over the front with only 40K on it.

So yeah Acura paint it terrible compared to BMW.

nvm found the answer, but i agree with the thin paint. my passenger front door has this fading color which i believe is due to my neighbor banging on my door when he opens his door. Hes like 80 yearts old though so i feel pity in a way him.

acura does have cheap paint slow down, avoid driving behind trucks or cars that would otherwise throw rocks at your (use your best judgment), or get a clear bar. i'm assuming everyone has pretty much said the same...

First of all milage has nothing to do with it.
Second, ALL paint will chip no matter if u have 10 coats of clear.
Best thing to do is stop tailing ppl. I can gaurentee you 99.9% of the cars on AZ (not just 3gTL section) have rock chips. infact. I can gaurentee you 95% of the cars in the world have rock chips, the other 5% is show cars that just sit in the garage.

The only thing u can do to fix it would be to of course touch up paint or respray the hood. and the only way to prevent it is a clear bra or like someone said above drive far away from other cars expecially trucks and big riggs since they have bigger thread on their tires, they can hold bigger rocks, on top of that they're higher and the rocks have more of a chance to get past their rear bumper and onto your car.

My car has so many chips on it, it looks like it has acne.

I wish I bought WDP instead of the Anthracite. At least you wouldn't see half of the chips.

I actually don't wash my car too often because when it's clean, it makes me sad to look at it's front.

As a former BMW owner '03 530i, BMWs are as bad if not worse than Acura. Bimmerfest forums are full of road rash complaints. This is a popular product for BMW owners: www.drcolorchip.com another is Langka.com

I have not used it, so I can't say how well it works. Reviews are mixed, so there are operator issues. I typically use touch up paint on the "large" chips and Turtle Wax Color Magic periodically. I drive a lot of highway miles, and I keep away from following trucks. I have had more success with the Acura than BMW in road rash. I also frequently wax the front bumper, hood and fender flares with Carnuba wax after I use the Color Magic, it only takes a few minutes once a month.

Quick Reply: only 15K and have chip marks on the hood
