Talking Omg : Ghost tails do it myself!

Hey guys so after having loonatix14's stock red tails...
I finally grew a pair of steel ones & just said F-it.
I figured it would take me all weekend to do it right & I am trying to follow the limited number of threads regarding this MOD

SO HERE WE GO!

I started with a hot knife to open the red tails : IT CUTS LIKE BUTTER!

Here is the cutting:

1 side

2nd side:

WILL TRY TO UPDATE ASAP. Have to take a break to eat.

HOLY CRAP! ::::: FAIL

So before I mess up my type S lights I was trying to practice getting all the pieces out of the RED TAILS & SNAP!

BROKE EM ::: mother trucker!

Well... not a total fail. It just means I learned what NOT to do on the TYPE S TAILS.

SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME THOUGH....

NO WORRIES THOUGH. I AM STILL MOVING FORWARD. Going to spend double the time on the type S TAILS tonight. might only get one finished though.

All you need is red reflectors in the rear to be completely legit; You can either leave the red reflector in at the bottom of each tail light, or just add some aftermarket reflectors somewhere on the bumper (kinda like the TSX has)

I'm sure many cops dont even know to look for this....they focus more on brake lights and turn signals. You'll get pulled over for everything else waaay before proper rear reflectors.

TRIOD,
I think you need to use a dremel with a cutoff wheel man! Just gotta be real carefull. I'll be doing this soon. Keep us posted!

Exactly! I love mine. They took forever and were a lot of work, but sooooo worth it.

Definately need to dremel them using a hot knife will fuse the seperate peaces together, making seperation difficult at best.

ezlock dremel plastic cutting wheels are the best.

start at the corners on the side that is visible when the trunk is open
when both corners are cut draw a line from corner cut to corner cut on the trunk visible side. This is the most importnat cut. It must be as deep as possible to get to the inside of the light. The rest is just cutting around the edge like in my DIY.

Trust what I say ive done 11 pairs.

Raj has been beating this idea into my head so much it gave me a headache. Nonetheless, his persistence has paid off. I will attempt this on my own as soon as I can pick up a set of Type-S tails.

I think clear with a little tint will set of the rear nicely

Thanks for the motivation Triod; I've been marinating on this mos for months. Finally got started this weekend.

I currently have my stock, smoked tails installed right now, so I started by tearing appart my 's' tails. It took me around 2-2.5 hrs to take both lights appart. I used a dremel with a EZlock cutoff wheel. This project is tedious, requiring some care & patience, but it's nothing complicated or difficult. For shits and giggles, I decided to run a quick trial on smoking the red innards of the 's' tails, for anyone who is wondering what it would look like. I just did a mock up, I didn't put them back together or anything. Sorry for the crappy pics, since it was night and I had my finger prints all over the place .

I think this looks better than just smoking lenses from the outside, but I'm still gonna go with tearing appart the stock tails and smoking the clear lenses. Wish me luck.

NIIIICE... anyone do this on a WDP? If so, got any pics? I definitely want to see this, and I think I wanna try this. I have some Type S tails but how much are they nowadays (for an extra set?), is there some kind of replica? Or anyone got a bigger picture of their tail lights from the angle in my avatar? I'll try a photo chop... Maybe JaZeusTL05? thx..
