Omfg My Tl!
Oh my god, this has got to be THE worst week EVER for Estelle. First of all she got milk, cereal, circus peanuts, and crap poured all over the roof and hood last monday. Then I clean her up and find light scratches that the bastards made on her that wont come off even w/ meguiars ScratchX. THEN i go to a party, get the hell scratched out of her again on the other side from the middle of the hood to the A-Pillar on the right side. Then yesterday I roll up my windows and I see my tint is semi-starting to scratch. One fine scratch, not very noticible. THEN today I decide to wash her because school is starting tommorow and I got her getting looking good. So I was her as usual and as I am rinsing her I see the BIGGEST chip I have ever seen in my life on the rear right passenger door. Its about the size of a quarter and its all the way down to the metal/ At first I thought It might have been bird crap because it was white and shaped weird (looked like 5 small ciricles in a group) then it wouldnt come off so I look down and its friggin DEEEEP its white all around , dunno why and then its bare metal in the center. and to top it off, there are about 6 deep about 1" scratches around it. I think some inconsiderate person must have opened their door into my car somewhere. omg it looks HORRIBLE. It sticks out like a sore thumb. I want to cry sooo bad. Im about ready to quit life right now. DAMN IT! SOMEBODY CUT ME SOME SLACK! My door will DEFINITELY need to be taken off and repainted or filled or something. Its soooo deep. Its not even funny.

I would suggest taking it to a professional detailer for the scratches, and maybe even ask his opinion about the chipped paint, whether its something he can take care of or not. Good luck.

that sucks dude. I know how you feel when all kinds of crap happen to your car. I just sucked it up and got what i needed repainted, i didnt even want to mess with third party stuff. Go to a reputable auto body shop and see what they can do. i have heard that the touch up pen can do wonders with alot of patience.
good luck with everything

well think of it this way, hes 17 and he paid for it with his own money. now that is alot of lemonade cups during the summer.
In comparison, what would happen if some drunk ran into your house and drove away? well afterall it is a house.
For those teens that paid for their cars, think of the dedication it took, and how much you want to take care of it, because to date this prb has been the biggest purchase you have ever made.
But as for taking your life... that stuff is scary and shouldnt even be thought, but i can see how this was a real stress pit for you this past week.

This is expressly why I park my car AWAY from the nearest parking spots and ALWAYS try and get an end spot to minimize damage on at least one side, since people DO NOT care about anyone else's stuff other than their own stuff. I, for one, will not hit someone's car door opening mine, even WHEN I am in a rental car. I just think that is PLAIN RUDE.
If I park a little bit farther away from people and come back to my car in the condition I left it and all that I had to pay for it was a little farther of a walk, I'll take it.
Just my $0.02.
Thanks for listening.

Dude, I am so sorry to hear that. I got my 04 TL and had to get the full frontal mask becuase this carr seems to get more chips in the front than any other car I have owned. Luckily, my next door neighbor is the, "DENT EXPERT," here in Santa BArbara. All those little chips and scratches can be taken care of. Do you have a, "DENT EXPERT," where you live? They do minor paint repairs and you will be in the clear!

Here are my tips on how to avoid this kind of thing. So far this has worked well for me for years:
1) Don't park in anything but one end space. Taking up two is asking for attention. Keep the risk down to one side of the car.
2) Don't drive the car where it is conspicuous in its value. The Odyssey goes to those places.
3) Don't drive the car to a party in the middle of cornfields with drunken teenagers. That's just asking for trouble.
4) Don't name the car. If it slips out, you're tagged as abnormally attached to your car and are again begging for unwanted attention. Also, cars are always "it", not "her".
5) Garage the car at night all the time.
6) Don't tint the windows.

I like the two that I've quoted above. In my situation though, whether I've named her or not...people just seem to know I'm abnormally attached to my car (or maybe they just know I'm abnormal).
Curious about your reasoning for no tint?

The deep place on the door can be fixed to look like it never even happened, if you find a really good paint detailer. He (or she, as the case may be) will first fill the depression, then paint and clearcoat the spot. It takes a little talent to do this well, so shop around for a good one. And do it before rust/corrosion set in.
And PoochaKannInc ... not to answer for svtmike, but I'd say the tint reference is because so many people equate tinted windows with gangs, drug dealers/druggies, "tough guys", "cool dudes", etc., etc. You get the idea. When I see a heavily-tinted car, I immediately assume it's something sinister, and I know it has to attract the attention of sinister people ...

Eggroll, my advice on avoiding damage to your car is get the heck out of Oklahoma as fast as you can! Most of the rednecks up there figure your car needs to be "broken in" like their 1983 F-150s. It just ain't right till it's got a few dents and scratches...maybe a hole rusted through the floor board. Hope you can get things put back together soon.

Yes I can vouch for the tint part. I am not any of the previous mentioned things, but I just like people not being able to see me, also it keeps the interior cool and the leather from fading. I also think tint makes almost any car look better and the windows blend with the car more. Funny, I got the tint to attract less attention to myself, in actuality it attracts more attention. But I do believe having tinted windows reduces the chance of someone breaking into your car, especially at night. Even if a car was parked and turned off, if it has dark windows you have no idea whether a person is sitting in the car or what. Plus, this masks any plain view valuables as well. It also gets you pulled over by state troopers. Yes people are inconsiderate, but I don't care if there is a Pinto that is about to blow up parked next to me, I still won't hit the doors with mine or even brush against it. I think that people are jealous that such a young person has the drive and initiative to obtain such a quality ride, assuming your parents just paid for it. Bottom line is that you can't change people, only protect yourself.

EggRoll: I feel for you man. I have something done to my car at least once everyt two weeks. Spit, soda, beer cans placed on top, unidentified goo, mirrors twisted, large rocks, bottles or other objects placed under the tires, etc etc etc. I don't know anyone in this town really, I moved here recently and have no interest in making new friends or enemies. It must be something about a nice car that drives other people to do stupid shit. I need to build a garage!
I have a sword by the front door waiting to meet one of these pricks.

Damn high school kids, there goes to show why you should not drive a nice car. should have waited till you got in college. that crap happened to me on the maxima but w/ very bad scrathes all around the car and it occured far out of school. i think it was from a former enemy, the max wasn't all that bling bling nice in high school, when i was there a lot of kids drove new bmw 3 series.
best thing to do egg is to cover up that giant scratch first then use the paint pin and cover what is left over. DO NOT re-paint the car it'll just get messed up again from some looser punk, wait till after you graduate trust me on this

Just remeber in 2 years or 10 or whatever you will have another new car. I really took good care of all 3 of my new cars and sooner or later something would happen. It sucks but, its life.
One thing I miss about all my junkers / beaters is I simply didn't care about them. They looked like hell so a few more scratches or a ding here or there just didn't matter.
